What Students Will Learn

The curriculum within the User Experience Design program revolves around a 5 stage process model:

- Learn (L)

- Understand (U)

- iMagine (M)

- Evaluate (E)

- iNform (N)

Learn -- When the trained designers are faced with a new design project, the first thing they do is try to find out as much as they can about the client, the users, and any other stakeholder. They look at what their competitors are doing and see what they can learn from that. They might conduct interviews, surveys, or focus groups to learn about who and what they will be working with.

Understand -- Taking what faculty members have learned in their research, the program develops models such as personas and design principles to help guide designs.

iMagine -- Using the models developed in the program, students learn to design solutions for their clients. Here they develop schematics that they can later hand off to developers/engineers to build.

Evaluate -- But as they design, students must constantly evaluate their ideas, so they conduct usability studies along the way to make sure their designs will actually work.

iNform -- Communication of designs is crucial to implementing them. So here students focus on the professional preparation of deliverables and reports.
