Marist College Offers Online MA in Integrated Marketing Communication

Marist College, located in Poughkeepsie, New York, was founded in 1929 as a Catholic institute for the training of Marist Brothers. Today, Marist College is one of the nation's leading arts and sciences colleges, widely recognized for its leadership in using technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Marist College offers a fully online Master of Arts (MA) in Integrated Marketing Communication (MA-IMC). This online degree program gives students the flexibility to complete assignments and exercises on their own schedules and participate in class discussions with professors and classmates through virtual chat rooms and message boards. The program's faculty comprises industry leaders with significant experience marketing national brands and teaching at major institutions.

MA in Integrated Marketing Communication Overview

The Marist College online MA in Integrated Marketing Communications degree was developed with the help and direction of communication industry leaders. It is designed for professionals already working in advertising, marketing, public relations, corporate branding, or related communications field; those with bachelor's degrees working in IMC-related fields and seeking career changes; and new graduates with bachelor's degrees in IMC-related disciplines.

Delivered in an asynchronous online format to accommodate working professionals, courses may be accessed 24/7 from anywhere and completed within 1 year (fulltime study). All classes include hands-on learning through case study analyses, real-life marketing exercises, and current branding and communication assignments from companies. Students have opportunities to develop and produce a wide range of communications for a variety of stakeholders across multiple channels that include interactive/web, social media, and traditional media.

Assignments and exams are time sensitive; students submit work electronically on the date it is due. In addition, students are assigned an academic adviser and have access to the Marist Help Desk for help with technical issues.

Online Course Schedule

There are 2 rounds of courses for the online MA-IMC, each lasting 8 weeks, in fall and spring semesters. Two rounds are offered in summer, each lasting 6 weeks. Fulltime students typically take 4 courses in fall and spring (2 in each round), and 2 courses in summer (1 in each round). Part-time students generally take 2 courses in fall and spring (1 in each round) and 1 in summer of each year. Fulltime students starting in fall should be able to complete the program the following summer. Part-time students starting in fall should be able to complete the program in 2 years.

Ten Course Curriculum

The online curriculum of the MA degree program in Integrated Marketing Communication comprises 10 courses focused on the integration of marketing and communication. Each course is 3 credits, for a total of 30 credits.

The courses are: "Principles of Integrated Marketing Communications;" "Advertising Management;" "Public Relations Management;" "Social Media Strategies and Tactics;" "Marketing Research;" "Marketing Foundations;" "Brand Management;" "Analytical Tools for Decision-Making;" "Global Communications Insights;" and "Integrated Marketing Communication Capstone."

Non-Credit Internships

Marist College faculty members and staff members work with students to secure non-credit internships or work experience with New York City industry professionals to enhance the student experience beyond the standard IMC curriculum. For example, recently students have interned at Mashable and Dragon Search.

Worldwide Network of Accomplished Faculty

Because students and faculty members can participate in the online program regardless of geographic location, the Marist College Master of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communication program offers a diversity and worldwide network of professionals few other IMC programs can match, either online or in the classroom.

All IMC faculty members hold either master's or doctoral degrees and bring significant professional experience in their areas of expertise. Many have worked on top accounts such as Sony, DHL, DuPont, Hershey in major agencies such as Golin/Harris, Cone Communications, and OgilvyOne Worldwide.

Notable faculty members include Professor Mark Van Dyke, a former Naval public affairs specialist currently focusing on research that explores the value of public relations management in creating strong relationships between multinational organizations and their publics; Professor Vernon Murray, an expert on the marketing of religion; and Dr. Elizabeth Purinton-Johnson, whose research interests include consumption meanings of jewelry, consumer aesthetics, marketing education, and mature marketing relationship survival.
