McDaniel College Overview

Established in 1867 as (initially as Western Maryland College), McDaniel College has been offering highly regarded graduate-level education programs since 1935. Located in historic Westminster, MD, the college is located just 22 miles from historic Gettysburg, PA, 30 miles from Baltimore's Inner Harbor, and 60 miles from Washington D.C.

McDaniel attracts a diverse graduate student population of over 1,800 students participating in over 25 graduate programs. Classes are offered in convenient schedules and flexible formats including face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats to accommodate the busy schedules of graduate students.

A "teach first" institution that focuses on high levels of student engagement and interaction, McDaniel has been profiled in the book "Colleges That Change Lives" for the close personal attention that is paid to each individual student.

Ed Programs Overview

McDaniel has built a legacy of preparing some of the top teachers and administrators in the state, the region and the nation. The 2012 National Teacher of the Year and the 2013 Maryland Teacher of the Year and National Teacher of the Year Finalist are alums of McDaniel programs. Other respected alums have held Superintendent, State Superintendent, and other executive-level positions within school districts throughout the region.

McDaniel's education programs carry top accreditations including: NCATE, MSDE, PDE, ELCC, ISLLC, International Reading Association, SLLA, and AASL. The degrees, graduate certificates, and certification tracks in the Education Portfolio prepare aspiring or experienced teachers with initial and/or advanced certifications in a wide variety of specializations as well, preparing certified administrators.

The BEST Initial Teacher Certification program prepares future educators to be effective with today's diverse and tech-savvy students.

The MS in Counselor Education provides future mental health workers and school counselors with the foundation and practical skills necessary for rewarding careers.

The MS in Curriculum & Instruction focuses on designing, implementing, and evaluating educational curricula.

Since 1967, the MS in Deaf Education has prepared graduates to excel as leading educators of deaf students around the world.

The MS in Educational Administration prepares leaders for positions in public and private schools for special populations.

The MS in Elementary Education allows students the freedom to self-design their programs in collaboration with their academic advisers.
