Overview

A Highly Ranked Engineering University

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) is a highly regarded regional university that offers programs in engineering, business, mathematics, and nursing. Both "The Princeton Review" and "U.S. News and World Report" rank MSOE among the best in the Midwest. "Forbes" places MSOE among the top 9% of universities in the nation for engineering programs.

Milwaukee School of Engineering also consistently ranks as a best value on the "U.S. News and World Report" survey of Midwestern universities without Ph.D. programs.

This highly-ranked university offers a Master of Science in Engineering Management degree program.

The Master's Program Engineering Management

The Master of Science in Engineering Management (M.S.E.M.) at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) is as comprehensive as a traditional Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) but with an emphasis on the engineering and technological challenges facing today's business world. The classroom experience concentrates on practical real-world problems in the industry today.

The program, designed for flexibility and accessibility, is targeted at early-career professionals who are moving from specialized fields into management roles within their organizations. The program produces graduates who excel at project management, team building, and the integration of technical and management best practices.

A Flexible Program

The M.S.E.M. program at MSOE requires 45 credit hours, including 24 credits of management courses, 15 hours of electives, and 6 hours for the completion of a management thesis or capstone project. The curriculum is available in a blended format of online and in-person classes that reduces in-class and commute time by 50%. The entire degree may be completed in as little as 1 year, or over the course of 2-4 years in blended, part-time, evening-only format.

Students explore organizational leadership, project management, operations management, financial management, technical sales and marketing, entrepreneurship, quality and continuous improvement, policy and strategy, supply chain management, and international business.

The thesis and capstone options distinguish the MSOE program from similar programs in that they allow the student to explore a particular management theory and its application in a real world situation. The capstone project is completed as part of an 11-week class that focuses on one of 5 business areas: quality control, project marketing, operations management, project management, or organizational leadership. The timing of thesis work and completion is established by the student in consultation with a thesis adviser.

The Milwaukee School of Engineering Advantage

Students enrolled in the Master of Science in Engineering Management program at MSOE receive a practical, applied, professional graduate education that allows them to immediately apply new knowledge to work challenges both during the program and at program completion. Graduate program alumni show high career achievement, and move into many leadership positions that range from Chief Executive Officer to Project Manager. A longitudinal study of mid-career MSOE graduates shows that they continue to outperform their cohorts in both salary and job satisfaction.

Small class sizes and professor-led classes are another component of the MSOE advantage. Students enjoy great access to professors, allowing for greater feedback and improving students' mastery of core concepts. In addition, the online blended format and tech-savvy faculty members make it easy to communicate with professors via email, Skype, text, and other platforms.

A Business Background in the Classroom

MSOE faculty members have relevant, extensive experience outside the classroom and laboratory, and have often worked in industry for many years before coming to MSOE to teach. Professors share their experience and expertise in the classroom, and also help students apply new learning to address business problems during class-related field projects. The close relationships between MSOE faculty members and regional industry help maintain a current, relevant curriculum, while providing a "living laboratory" in which students apply new skills and knowledge.

In addition to significant industry experience, the majority of MSOE graduate faculty members hold doctoral degrees in specialized fields of study that enhance their ability to share information in the classroom.

A Modern Campus

Milwaukee School of Engineering's 20 acre campus is located in the east shore neighborhood of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, just minutes from Lake Michigan. Campus features include an athletic field and easy-access parking.

"The Princeton Review" has named MSOE as one of the nation's most environmentally friendly colleges. The solar panels atop the Campus Center develop renewable clean energy.

MSOE's graduates enjoy the highest average starting and mid-career salaries of any Wisconsin university according to Payscale Inc. Affordable Colleges Online ranks MSOE in the top 1% of U.S. colleges as measured by return on investment (ROI). MSOE degree-holders out-earn non-degree holders by at least one million dollars.
