The College of Engineering at NC A&T also attracts the 2nd largest amount of research dollars of any public engineering program in the state of North Carolina. The school attracts approximately $15 million annually in research funding. The College of Engineering has established close corporate partnerships to expand research, educational, and employment opportunities for its graduates.

The College of Engineering was awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation's (NSF) Engineering Research Center (ERC) to support the study of metallic biomaterials and nano-bio applications. It also leads several national initiatives in engineering and has established prominent centers and institutes.

Diverse Graduate Programs in Engineering

The College of Engineering at NC A&T consists of seven departments: Mechanical Engineering; Computer Science; Computational Science & Engineering, Chemical engineering, Biological & Bioengineering; Industrial & Systems Engineering; Electrical & Computer Engineering; and Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering.

The college offers Master of Science (M.S.) degrees in bioengineering; chemical engineering; civil engineering; computer science; computational science & engineering; electrical engineering; industrial & systems engineering; and mechanical engineering.

The college also awards Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Computer Science, Computational Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

A College of Engineering's Innovative Centers

The College of Engineering at North Carolina A&T State University and three other academic institutions lead the Center for Academic Studies in Identity Sciences (CASIS), which conducts interdisciplinary research into advanced biometrics with a large grant from the Army Research Laboratory. CASIS is the first and only National Intelligence Science and Technology Center of Academic Excellence in the United States.

The NSF ERC Center for Revolutionizing Metallic Bio-materials is located at NC A&T. The center conducts research in the areas of biomedical engineering and nano-bio applications and is in partnership with the Universities of Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. It also has a global technical partner in Germany?s Hannover School of Medicine.

North Carolina A&T State University also hosts the Center for Aviation Safety (CAS). Established with NASA funding, the center produces engineering graduates who will develop the tools, materials, models, and technologies necessary to address the future challenges of the aerospace industry. The College of Engineering at NCA&T was also a founding member of the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), which was established to conduct leading-edge atmospheric and aerospace research and to develop new technologies.

The Center for Cyber Defense was designated as a National Cneter of Academic Excellence in Infomration Assurance Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security in 2010.

The following are other centers in the college of engineering:

- Center for Advanced Materials and Smart Structures

- Center for Autonomous Control and Information Technology

- Center for Composite Materials Research

- Center for Cooperative Systems

- Center for Energy Research and Technology

- Center for Human Machine Studies
