The Department of Mathematics at OSU offers Master's and Ph.D. degrees. For both degrees, specializations are offered in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and mathematics education.

Outstanding Faculty in the Department of Mathematics at OSU Conduct Research in Several Interrelated Fields

The Math Department offers all of its students the complete support of an award-winning faculty, as well as the high-end research facilities required in professional research work.

There are several areas of study that graduate students may focus on, including algebra and geometry, analysis, applied mathematics, mathematics education, number theory, representation theory, and topology. The low student-to-teacher ratio helps to create an immediate and intimate environment for students to learn in. There are over 30 full- and part-time professors and assistant professors, all with a doctorate, that lead and support the OSU Math Department.

In recognition of their outstanding research, two of our faculty received prestigious Sloan Fellowships, two are Humboldt Fellows, one has been honored with an AMS Centennial Fellowship, and several have received awards from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities. Several of our faculty members have been honored as the mathematics teacher of the year in the region, and one received the national teacher of the year award, which is given each year to only three mathematics teachers in the country.
