Overview

Penn State University World Campus

Established in 1998, Pennsylvania State University's World Campus today continues the university's century-long commitment to providing educational access to learners at a distance. World Campus delivers 71 total programs to over 12,000 students from all 50 states, in 68 countries, and on all 7 continents. Through its strong faculty, innovative technology, convenient support services, and opportunity for direct interaction with students' professors and classmates, the World Campus offers a complete academic environment, but with the flexibility to study wherever students may be.

The World Campus offers students some of Penn State's best-regarded and academically challenging graduate degrees and continuing education certificates.

20 Graduate Degrees Available Online

Penn State offers students 20 distance and online graduate degrees, available through its World Campus. Distance degrees from Penn State carry the same weight as traditional degrees, with no differences between the diplomas or transcripts. Programs use multiple technologies to teach students how to meet the professional challenges related to their fields of choice, while upgrading their knowledge and potential for advancement.

Distance education courses can be delivered in several different methods, including online group courses and online individual courses. During individual courses, students interact 1-on-1 with their instructors, whereas group courses allow students direct interaction with their instructors and with other students. Degrees available include the Master of Business Administration (iMBA), Master of Education (MEd), Master of Engineering (MEng), and Master of Professional Studies (MPS).

21 Graduate or Post Baccalaureate Certificates Available Online

The Pennsylvania State University World Campus offers students 21 graduate or post baccalaureate certificate opportunities. Certificate programs use discipline-specific courses in order to provide students with opportunities to explore online degree programs, fulfill professional development requirements, or just to satisfy interests. These courses are designed specifically for effective online delivery, from the ground up. World Campus also partners with corporate, professional, and military and government organizations to develop certificate programs specific to industry needs.

Graduate certificates available include Applied Statistics, Community and Economic Development, Project Management, and Supply Chain Management. Post baccalaureate certificates include Autism, Family Literacy, Geographic Information Systems, and Information Systems Security.

Wide Range of Support Services Available

World Campus offers a wide selection of dedicated support services geared towards providing essential resources to distance learners of all types, including military personnel and veterans, teachers, high school students, international students, and students with disabilities. The HelpDesk staff offers technical support regarding hardware, software, and internet issues, including availability on evenings and weekends. World Campus students also have online access to Penn State's library, the 13th largest university library in the country.

Additional online resources available for World Campus students include online workshops and seminars, self-assessment modules, career counseling, and job search and networking help.

Supported by a Truly Global Faculty

Penn State's renowned faculty members devote the same commitment to World Campus students as they do for their classes on the traditional campuses. Faculty members who participate in World Campus programs have lived and studied in locations all over the world. They bring their expertise and experience to the World Campus global community.

For instance, Colin Neill teaches courses in software engineering and information science. Dr. Neill received his 3 degrees from the University of Wales in the United Kingdom, has worked with Oxford University and British Aerospace, and has 50 professional articles to his credit. Dr. Dan Hade in the children's literature program has lectured across the US as well as in Sweden, the U.K., France, and South Korea. In the homeland security program, Dr. Mia Bloom is a leading expert on suicidal terrorism. Her degrees are in political science, Arab studies, and Russian and Middle East studies.

Financing Distance Education

Students at the Penn State World Campus are eligible to receive financial assistance in many of the same ways as traditional students. Distance education students may be eligible for federal aid, private scholarships, or summer aid. Third-party payments, wherein a student's company pays for his or her tuition and fees, for example, are also available. Certificate programs are not eligible for federal aid, but the financial aid office provides options for private alternative loans. Private scholarships available include the Trustee Scholarship Program and the World Campus Military Annual Fund Scholarship.
