Overview

Transform learning, in and outside of the classroom

The Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP) was among the first in the nation to offer a Master of Arts in Educational Computing, now known as the Master of Arts in Learning Technologies. The program was also among the first accredited online programs of its kind in California. Today the online program continues to be recognized for its innovative work, and was awarded the 2007 Platinum Award for Best Practices in Distance Learning Programming (Online) from the prestigious United States Distance Learning Association.

With 85% of coursework conducted online, the Master of Arts in Learning Technologies offers hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies that can transform learning in and outside of the classroom. Furthermore, the program can be completed in just 1 year.

Benefits of the program

The 1 year program's summer session focuses on discovery, the fall on understanding, the spring on application, and the following summer on leveraging technology for community transformations. With the flexible online format, students have more control over when and where they learn, and most learning activities are customized to fit students' practices, so project work is integrated with everyday activities in the workplace.

CadreCamp is a prerequisite, 5-day, face-to-face session where students earn program credit for leadership and technology course work, as well as meet fellow cohort group members and faculty members. Cohorts create a remarkably supportive online community, providing feedback from diverse perspectives, as well as a built-in professional network.

In lieu of a traditional master's thesis, students each create and present an Action Research Project, focusing on planning, executing, and reflecting upon improvements to their practice. They will also meet innovators of learning technologies and learn to evaluate learning theories in practice, and present their own work at a public conference and virtual venue, sharing their new knowledge and voice with colleagues, family, and the world.
