Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Available in 3 Concentrations
Quinnipiac offers a clinical Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program for students pursuing preparation as advanced practice nurses. Developed from the former master's level nurse practitioner program, the DNP program offers a highly personalized, well-regarded academic program that also recognizes the importance of compassion, commitment, and connection to individuals. DNP students are presented with many opportunities to broaden their scope of practice and prepare for leadership roles in organizational management, nursing leadership, and advanced specialty practice.
The DNP program is available in 3 specialty areas: adult nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner, and women's health nurse practitioner. Each specialty area provides a convenient schedule for adult learners. Full-time students complete the degree within 3 years, while part-time students complete the program in 4 years. Graduates leave prepared for professional nursing practice, and can provide holistic care for a diverse selection of individuals, families, communities, and populations.
DNP Program Offers 2 Post-Master's Options
Quinnipiac's DNP program offers 2 post-master's options for students who have previously earned master's degrees in nursing or related fields. Both 33-credit hour tracks build on the DNP core curriculum through an intentional selection of courses, as well as electives that incorporate a focus on educational leadership.
The Care of the Individual Track is designated for Connecticut-licensed APRNs. Students in this track enroll in 4 clinical practice experiences, as well as a brief immersion experience, to complete 520 hours of new clinical experience in areas of special interest. The Care of Populations Track is recommended for post-master's students without backgrounds as APRNs. This track prepares students for executive leadership positions or community focused care classes and field experience covering issues related to health care systems, organizational dynamics, and delegation and conflict resolution.
Students have Access to Cutting-Edge Equipment
In addition to addressing the creative and personal aspects of nursing, Quinnipiac's DNP program is also research-based. The program operates out of the School of Health Sciences building, which houses $3.5 million of state-of-the-art equipment. The 180,000-square-foot facility is also home to 24 teaching laboratories, including a clinical skills lab, an intensive care unit, an orthopedics lab, pediatric and neonatal labs, and a motion analysis lab. Additional equipment and resources available include magnetic resonance simulators, 3D workstations, a model apartment to teach care in residential settings, and the health sciences library.
