MA in Public Relations

For more than 30 years, Rowan's MA in PR program has helped students build successful careers in public relations and its related fields. Rowan's program helps students become skilled public relations practitioners, as well as successful PR counselors and strategists.

Today, more than 500 graduates serve in key corporate, non-profit, and educational positions throughout the country. Others have successfully launched their own businesses, and nearly all are active in the profession's leading professional organizations.

The program is divided into 3 areas of focus: "Corporate Public Relations," "Educational Public Relations," and "Public Affairs." The emphases enable students to focus on specific areas of public relations based on their preferences.

Students may take 3-6 credits of internships, as on-the-job apprenticeships in public relations roles. Students must pass comprehensive exams, each with both a written and an oral component, to complete the MA program. Students also must write approved theses on any aspect of public relations or communication to complete the MA program.

MA in Writing

Since its inception in 1999, the Master of Arts in Writing has grown into a robust and dynamic program. It is an innovative, interdisciplinary degree that integrates the scholarship on composition and new media and the practice of creative, journalistic, academic, and electronic writing.

The program provides students with a strong theoretical foundation in writing studies through 4 core courses and offers several areas in which students may develop their personal and professional goals, including composition studies, creative writing/journalism, and new media.

The MA in Writing prepares students for teaching writing at the post-secondary level, for career advancement in journalism, and for advanced study in MFA and PhD programs. Students go on to publish their works in creative and academic ventures, to work as writers in professional and educational settings, and to teach in K-12 schools and community colleges.
