Overview

The Santa Clara University Department of Operations Management and Information Systems

Opened in 1926, Santa Clara University's Leavey School of Business (LSB) was one of the first business schools in the nation to receive national accreditation. The "U.S. News and World Report" have noted the school's long-standing commitment to excellence by ranking Leavey's part-time MBA program in the top 20 in the nation for 15 consecutive years.

Housed within LSB, the Department of Operations Management and Information Systems (OMIS) has a unique Management Information Systems (MIS) program that' adds an emphasis on "operations" and the growing relationship between increasingly important computer technologies in daily business management and operations. By embracing the university's teaching scholar model, the OMIS department develops students into industry leaders with the skills needed to manage business operations through the design, implementation, and evaluation of effective computer-based systems.

Leavey School of Business Centers and Institutes

The Leavey School of Business houses 8 centers and institutes that provide both students and outside organizations with a variety of interdisciplinary research and assistance opportunities related to business issues. For instance, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) provides networking, education, and advising support to students and professionals in Silicon Valley. CIE's California Program for Entrepreneurship (CAPE) uses case studies, classroom instruction, experiential learning, group work, and virtual exercises to better prepare emerging entrepreneurs for any financial and organizational barriers that may come their way.

Additional LSB centers and institutes include the Civil Society Institute (CSI), which hosts lectures, events, and educational programs that train students in social inquiry and discourse related to contemporary policy issues. The Global Women's Leadership Network (GWLN), which offers programs designed to develop women as individuals, leaders, and part of a global network of professionals.

SCU also supports 3 campus-wide interdisciplinary Centers of Distinction that create points of contact between the university and the community: the Center for Science, Technology, and Society; Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education; and Markkula Center for Applied Ethics.

Master of Science in Information Systems

The Department of Operations Management and Information Systems (OMIS) offers a Master of Science (MS) degree in Information Systems.
