Acceleration Master of Business Administration at South University - Savannah

South University was established in 1899 as a business college in Savannah, Georgia. Today, it offers more than 70 undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs through 5 schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, College of Health Professions, College of Nursing and Public Health, and School of Pharmacy.

The College of Business offers associate, bachelor, and master degrees in accounting, business administration, healthcare administration and management, information systems and technology, public relations, public administration, and leadership. The College of Business also offers an accelerated Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree program at its Columbus, South Carolina campus and at both its Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia campuses.

Students can pursue a general accelerated M.B.A. (A.M.B.A.) degree program or a Health Administration A.M.B.A. degree program.

Experienced Faculty

South University faculty members in the accelerated M.B.A. degree program not only have terminal degrees in their areas of expertise, but have considerable business experience in the fields that they teach.

Professor James Fetterman who teaches "Law and Ethics for Managers" and "Financial Accounting and Reporting," for example, has both a law degree and a Ph.D. in Accounting. He serves as an editor and reviewer for Mid West Law Review and has held political administrative appointments in Mississippi and Florida.

Professor Merle Davis, who teaches "Organization and Communication," was instrumental in union negotiations between the United Auto Workers and General Motors (G.M.).

Professor Sheri Bias, who teaches "Strategic HR Management" and "Human Resources Management in Healthcare Organizations," serves as editor for NASA and other publications in the field of human resources.

Professor Marta Urdaneta, who teaches "Health Policy" and "Human Resources Management in Healthcare Organizations," has worked as a healthcare administer for both family practice clinics and nursing homes.

The Savannah, Georgia Campus

The university's campus is located just 7 miles from downtown Savannah, Georgia. As one of the larger cities in the state, Savannah is home to a thriving business community.

The 12-Month Schedule for Working Professionals

The accelerated M.B.A. degree program at South University accommodates working professionals. Students can join the program at the start of any month, except December. Classes are held on alternating Saturdays for a total of 24 per year.

Courses are administered in a blended format with both online and classroom components. This structure provides students an opportunity to interface with instructors with real-world experience while allowing for maximum flexibility. Students also participate in conference calls and synchronous Web-based meetings.

Students earn 48 credit hours by completing 12 4-hour courses.

The General Accelerated M.B.A. Curriculum

The Accelerated M.B.A. degree program is designed for students pursuing careers in a wide range of fields. As such, the curriculum covers accounting, leadership, and core business topics such as marketing and human resources.

Students complete 12 required courses: "Financial Accounting and Reporting;" "Leadership Ethics, Culture and Politics;" "Organization Behavior and Communication;" "Law and Ethics for Managers;" "Quantitative Analysis and Decision Making;" "Managerial Environment;" "Managerial Finance;" "Strategic Marketing;" "Operations and Supply Chain Management;" "Strategic HR Management;" "Organization Development and Change Management;" and "Strategic Development and Implementation."

The Healthcare Administration Accelerated M.B.A. Curriculum

The Accelerated Heathcare Administration M.B.A. degree program is specifically geared towards students who seek to take a leadership role in the healthcare industry. As such, students complete 6 courses in core business areas and 6 courses related to the business of healthcare.

These required courses include "Organization Behavior and Communication;" "Law and Ethics for Managers;" "Quantitative Analysis and Decision Making;" "Managerial Environment;" "Strategic Marketing;" "Operations and Supply Chain Management;" "Healthcare Structure, Organization and Governance;" "Public Health Organization and Management;" "Quality Performance and Management;" "Health Policy;" "Financial Management of Healthcare Organizations;" and "Human Resource Management in Healthcare."

Admission Requirements to the Accelerated M.B.A. at South University

Students applying to the Accelerated M.B.A. degree program at South University need to have completed bachelor's degrees with overall grade point averages (G.P.A.s) of 2.7, or at least 2.7 G.P.A.s for the last 60 academic hours. South University requires students to complete the GMAT if the G.P.A. requirement is not met.
