Research

Focus of faculty research: Most faculty are focused on American national politics, including presidential character and leadership; political opinions expressed on social media platforms and the impact of the conversation on candidates and elections; interest group lobbying of Congress and staff influence on members' priorities; history of the conservative movement and the role of the John Birch Society in the modern Republican Party. Two faculty members mostly focus on understanding the recent (mostly worrisome) changes in Latin American democratic regimes.
