- Management

- Marketing

Each program requires full-time study over 12 months and consists of 2 taught semesters (6 months) followed by the research dissertation during the summer period. There are approximately 8 to 12 hours of classes per week, depending on the modules chosen, plus group work and private study and research.

The dissertation is an integral and crucial part of the course, providing students opportunities to apply what has been learned earlier in the classroom. Topics reflect the expertise of the school's lecturers; students may choose from a list of options.

Research Facilities

The MBS Library is part of the university's library, one of the best academic-resourced libraries in the UK.

Financial Aid

There are a number of scholarships available for all of the master's programs. The scholarship awards are #5,000 each towards the cost of tuition fees. Scholarships are available on a rolling basis so early application is advisable.

Applicants from the United States can apply to the US-UK Fulbright Commission for a Fulbright Award (www.fulbright.org.uk).

Cost of Study

Tuition fees range from #15,500 to #21,400 depending on the course. Living costs are estimated to be around #10,630 for a 1-year course.

Living and Housing Costs

The University of Manchester has more university-owned accommodation than almost any other university in the UK. A number of residences are reserved exclusively for postgraduates; in others, undergraduate students are grouped together. The average cost for self-catering halls is #5,145.

Students who come to Manchester unaccompanied and pay the overseas rate are guaranteed a place in universi-ty-managed housing.

Student Group

These programs attract a diverse group of students from over 70 nations. Applications are assessed based upon excellent academic performance at the undergraduate level and indicators such as previous grades, a candidate's relative position within their class, and the institution at which the candidate has studied previously. For some courses, the undergraduate degree content must be closely related to the course subject and students need to demonstrate consistently high standards throughout their studies. Other factors taken into account include the written application; the personal statement; and the motivation, maturity, personal skills, and attributes that may contribute to the classroom experience.

Student Outcomes

Manchester seeks to produce capable, confident graduates with specialized expertise that can be used in today's business environment. With access to more than 4,500 UK and global recruiters, students can take advantage of many opportunities. Manchester graduates are placed in the public and private sectors across all industries.

A recent graduate of the M.Sc. Finance degree program now works as a financial analyst for J.P. Morgan in the United States, and an international student from the M.Sc. Operations, Project, and Supply Chain Management degree program is starting a graduate training program with Airbus.

Location

Manchester Business School is just a short walk from the city centre and all its attractions. It also offers easy access to world-class transit options, including buses, trams, and a train network with connections throughout the UK, plus a major international airport with direct flights serving 220 destinations.

The University and the School

Established in 1965, Manchester Business School was one of the first business schools in the UK. It is the coun-try's largest campus-based business and management school and is part of the Faculty of Humanities at The University of Manchester. Research is at the heart of the school's mission -- according to the latest Research As-sessment Exercise (RAE) 2008 results, MBS is the UK's leading centre for business research.

Applying

MBS offers rolling admission for its courses and closes each one when the openings have been filled. There are no formal closing dates, but because of this, early application is encouraged. A guide to the application process, including details of all the supporting information required, can be found on the school's website at http://www.mbs.ac.uk/masters/what-next.

Prospective students can apply online for the September 2014 entry starting in October 2013, and they can sub-mit their applications before completing their undergraduate degrees (the applicants' latest grade transcripts will be sufficient for making acceptance decisions).
