Thomas Jefferson University is a private health sciences university located in downtown Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is regarded as one of the nation's premier academic health centers. Global Research in Population Health at Jefferson

The Jefferson School of Population Health organizes its' research operations into 4 divisions: "Quality and Safety," "Health Economics and Outcomes Research," "Health Policy and Health Services Research," and "Public Health." Students and world-class academic and research faculty members work in close collaboration with governments, the pharmaceutical industry, device industries, and other health, scientific, and environmental institutions to develop solutions to global population health challenges.

Academic Degrees and Certificates in Population Health

The Jefferson School of Population Health offers the following academic programs: a Master of Public Health (MPH) program; a Graduate Certificate in Public Health program; a Master of Science in Health Policy (MS-HP) program; a Master of Science in Health (MS-H) program; a Graduate Certificate in Health Policy program; a Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety (MS-HQS) program; a Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Quality and Safety program; a Master of Science in Chronic Care Management (MS-CCM) program; a Master of Science in Applied Health Economics and Outcomes Research (MS-AHEOR) program; and the PhD in Population Health Sciences program.

Master of Public Health dual degree academic programs are available for students attending Thomas Jefferson University's medical, nursing, and law schools.

Master of Public Health and Graduate Certificate

The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program is intended for recent college graduates with majors in natural or social sciences; students who are interested in earning additional degrees in public health and are currently enrolled in medical, nursing, or law degree programs; and practicing health professionals working in government, community health organizations, the pharmaceutical industry, and academia.

Graduates of the program are prepared to track disease outbreaks, conduct community health assessments, plan public health education programs, develop public health policies on environmental issues, advocate for government policy changes to increase public access to preventive health services, and direct campaigns to prevent infectious diseases.

A Certificate in Public Health is awarded to working professionals in government or private sector health organizations seeking to enhance their knowledge of public health practice. The certificate's 18 credits may be applied to the master's degree program.

Master of Science in Health Policy and Graduate Certificate

The Master of Science in Health Policy (MS-HP) program is an online curriculum for students with undergraduate degrees in public policy, economics, political science, or a healthcare field, and students in Jefferson's professional degree programs who are seeking a joint master's degree in health policy.

Graduates of the MS-HP program assume policy analysis and advocacy roles in healthcare provider organizations, integrated healthcare delivery systems, government offices, academic institutions, health services research firms, and community-based or advocacy organizations.

A Certificate in Health Policy is offered for professionals in all aspects of healthcare who want to enhance their knowledge of healthcare organization, delivery, and financing, and gain analytical skills to develop and implement health policy. The certificate's 18 credits may be applied to the master's degree program.

Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety and Graduate Certificate

The online Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety (MS-HQS) program prepares healthcare professionals in all areas of healthcare delivery to be leaders and advocates in healthcare quality and patient safety across a wide spectrum of environments.

A Certificate in Healthcare Quality and Safety is offered for professionals working in all aspects of healthcare who are seeking to enhance their knowledge of healthcare quality and patient safety. The certificate's 18 credits may be applied to the master's degree.

Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety Management

The Master of Science in Healthcare Quality and Safety Management (MS-HQSM) is a specialized degree program offered in cooperation with the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE). Designed expressly for physician executives to address the national need for leadership in healthcare quality and patient safety, the 30- credit program requires a capstone project that applies concepts, methods, and theories of healthcare quality and safety management to problems in actual settings.

Master of Science in Applied Health Economics and Outcomes Research

The Master of Science in Applied Health Economics and Outcomes Research (MS-AHEOR) meets the growing need for professionals to evaluate and measure health outcomes and to determine economic consequences of health care interventions by determining optimal clinical effectiveness, comparative effectiveness, and economic value. Graduates assume leadership positions in applied health economics and influence decision-making regarding the allocation of healthcare resources.

Master of Science in Chronic Care Management

The Master of Science in Chronic Care Management (MS-CCM) degree is an online program that focuses on chronic illness prevention and wellness, integrates evidence-based guidelines, and includes behavioral health concerns. Graduates are equipped to critically analyze, design, implement, and evaluate systems to improve chronic illness prevention and care management across a broad range of healthcare settings and populations.

Doctoral Program in Population Health Sciences

The PhD in Population Health Sciences program prepares graduate students to become scholars, researchers, educators, and health information specialists in core aspects of population health science. Candidates must complete 59 to 62 credits in core courses and 18 credits of specialization courses that include health policy, health care quality and safety, chronic care management, applied health economics, and behavioral and health sciences. Examinations and dissertations are also required.
