Collaborate Across Campus with Tufts' Medical, Dental, Veterinary, and International Diplomacy Schools

Tufts School of Engineering has been widely recognized for its cross-disciplinary research and education graduate programs. Several interdisciplinary programs offered by the university -- including "Bioengineering," "Cognitive Science," "Human Factors," "Water Diplomacy," "Water: Systems, Science, and Society" and "Soft Material Robotics"-- have close ties or formal connections with other professional schools at Tufts. Interdisciplinary Research in Strategic Research Areas

* Engineering for Health: Faculty strengths and cross-school collaboration in this area include biomedical imaging, regenerative medicine, bioinformatics, waterborne disease, and metabolic engineering.

* Engineering for Sustainability: Faculty strengths and collaborations in this area encompass water and diplomacy, water quality, climate change mitigation, environmental remediation, smart structures, alternative energy, and smart grids.

* Engineering the Human/Technology Interface: Faculty strengths in this area include development and dissemination of educational technologies, robotics and cognition, sensors, human factors engineering, and visualization.

Tufts Supports a Diverse Graduate Student Population

To better support graduate students from historically underrepresented groups, the School of Engineering's Center for STEM Diversity serves as a focal point for graduate recruitment and retention efforts. The center coordinates with the Provost office's Associate Director of Graduate Diversity programs to run a day-long Prospective Graduate Student Day, which brings in more than 150 potential graduate students from diverse backgrounds to campus every other year. Other recruitment events are coordinated across schools via the Graduate and Professional Student Admissions Recruitment Committee (GAPSARC), which is a university-wide committee of Tufts administrators and faculty members who are actively involved in the recruitment of graduate and professional students from underrepresented groups. To support current graduate students the Multi-Ethnic Graduate Alliance (MEGA) acts as a social and educational organization serving graduate students from all campuses, and the Center for STEM Diversity supports many underrepresented graduate students in the STEM fields. Tufts is also member of the National GEM Consortium, a fellowship program for minorities in engineering and applied science.
