The Full-time M.B.A. Program at the University at Albany

The Full-time M.B.A. degree program is open to individuals with a variety of academic backgrounds. The Full-time M.B.A. Curriculum

The Full-time M.B.A. degree program is a traditional 2-year program that consists of 61 credits of courses (10 credits are waivable).

The first semester includes introductory courses in accounting, behavioral science, computer science, economics, and statistics. The second semester focuses on problem-solving and decision-making and allows students to apply concepts learned in the first semester.

The second year of study consists of concentration core courses in human resource information systems or information technology management. It also includes a concentration elective course, field project, capstone course in business policy, and elective courses.

Full-time M.B.A. Concentrations

The human resource information systems (HRIS) concentration focuses on human resource theory and practice and incorporates information systems as a decision support mechanism. Students work with a variety of vendor-supplied software and develop a number of decision support systems.

The information technology management (ITM) concentration provides students with the analytical background, methods, and techniques used to determine organizations' information needs and design, execute, and manage systems that meet their needs.

Full-time M.B.A. Field Experiences

Field projects allow students to gain the hands-on experience and skills that employers value. Students work in small groups with faculty supervisors on consulting projects at Fortune 100 firms, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.

Recent field projects in human resource information systems have covered compensation and benefits, HR information systems, job analysis, labor relations, total quality management, and training and development.

Recent field projects in information technology management have included developing executive information systems, high level systems for financial services and product engineering, financial databases, and decision support systems for planning and control.

The Juris Doctor / Master of Business Administration Program

In collaboration with the Albany School of Law, the University at Albany offers a Juris Doctor / Master of Business Administration Program (J.D./M.B.A.) degree program that allows current J.D. students to earn both degrees in 4 rather than 5 years of study.

Expertise in both business and law enables graduates to pursue careers in business consulting, corporate law, teaching, and research.

The 15-credit certificate program in information security trains students to protect information systems in Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and small businesses.
