UC Berkeley School of Information

UC Berkeley's School of Information (I School) is the newest school at the university, featuring programs designed to prepare professionals to understand and use information to solve complex problems. With faculty members who are experts in their fields, the I School offers on-campus master's degree programs and a doctoral program as well as an online Master of Information and Data Science (MIDS).

Program Overview

The UC Berkeley School of Information (I School) offers a professional Master of Information and Data Science (MIDS) degree program delivered online. Designed for data science professionals seeking to organize, analyze, and solve real-world problems that result from the collection of large sets of unstructured data, this program allows students to earn a top-tier education without relocating.

Program course work examines topics in the forefront of the data science community, including security and machine learning. The program goes beyond research and analysis to incorporate a range of disciplines and skills, preparing students to see a data question through the entire life cycle -- from data collection to presentation of findings.

Students in the MIDS program benefit from UC Berkeley's strong ties to the Bay Area and Silicon Valley.

Why Datascience@Berkeley

The Master of Information and Data Science degree program blends live, face-to-face online classes with immersive course work that students complete on their own time from anywhere they can access the Internet. With a low student-to-faculty member ratio, classes bring together classmates from around the world for collaboration and discussion.

- Class sessions are delivered live in an online classroom.

- Courses are designed and taught by many of the same School of Information (I School) faculty members and data science professionals who teach the on-campus programs.

- Students are fully engaged members of the UC Berkeley I School community.
