Overview

Asia Pacific Studies and the World's Most Dynamic Region

The University of San Francisco (USF) offers a unique Master of Arts in Asia Pacific Studies program. The MAPS program offers an interdisciplinary approach to the Asia Pacific region through culture, language, literature, politics and economics. Graduates of the program qualify for positions in education, nonprofits, government, and foreign services, as well as careers in international business. Students can also choose to pursue a dual degree program from which they will receive both the MAPS degree and the MBA degree. The MAPS/MBA program can be completed in three years.

MAPS students complete their degree programs through a cohort model, which allows faculty to tailor the curriculum to the specific interests of each group as well as the requirements of the program. This model also provides students in each cohort the opportunity to exchange ideas on an ongoing basis. The resulting peer groups often develop professional and personal relationships that extend well beyond the length of the program.

A number of graduate fellowships are available to MAPS students, both abroad and in the U.S.

USF is home to a number of research centers and institutes that focus on issues of the Asia Pacific region, including the Center for the Pacific Rim.

More information is available about the College of Arts and Sciences and applying online, as well as information for international graduate students.

USF Is Your University -- San Francisco Is Your Campus

USF was founded in 1855 as the first university in San Francisco and is ranked in the top tier of national universities (U.S. News and World Report's America's Best Colleges, 2010). USF is a private, Jesuit university with a distinguished history in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, arts, finance and business management. Of the 9,500 students at USF, 38% are graduate students. USF is composed of five graduate schools: Arts and Sciences, Business and Professional Studies, Education, Law and Nursing.

The university offers rigorous and innovative graduate programs with a truly extraordinary faculty filled with professors who are experts in their fields and passionate about research. USF's faculty members are dedicated to providing high-quality, personalized attention to their students by having small class sizes.

Students enjoy the rich experiences available in San Francisco, one of the world's most vibrant, cosmopolitan, and beautiful cities. As the financial, cultural and technological center of the West Coast of the U.S., the San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most economically advanced regions of the world. San Francisco's diverse population draws people from around the world, while the Pacific Ocean climate of the city is moderate all year round. Outside the city, USF students experience California's many other attractions, such as the Napa Valley wine country, the Redwood forests, Pacific beaches, the mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe, and the Big Sur Coast.
