Students Reap the Benefits of a Graduate Degree

For students looking for ways to beat the economic downturn, it's a good idea to earn graduate degrees online at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) through its Virtual University, designed to make education affordable, accessible, and attainable.

Students can reap the benefits of quality education with classes completely online. With no required site visits to work around, students are in control while completing their graduate degrees. The university makes studying convenient for students with asynchronous classes. There are no set times to be in class or online.

Graduate Degrees Are Well Within Students' Reaches

Virtual University's accelerated 8-week terms enables students to complete two courses each term. The Virtual University provides students with a great way to finish 12 credit hours in the same timeframe as a traditional semester. This accelerated pace is perfect for the busy professional balancing education with work and family. Unlike traditional students concentrating on four or more courses during a semester, adult learners in the Virtual University's programs focus on one or two courses per term.

The Virtual University provides flexible, accessible options to quality accredited programs. The University of the Incarnate Word is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the business programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Academics

The curriculum offers students integrated programs of liberal arts and professional studies that include global perspectives and emphasis on social justice and community service. The university's faculty members are scholarly practitioners and understand the relationship between academics and the global workplace. Virtual University offers advanced degree programs designed for adult learners that are relevant to their current careers, or that help transition students into new career fields. The university's academic programs contain the academic rigor that will engage students' minds and challenge them to reach new goals.

Classes for Adult Learners

UIW promotes life-long learning and fosters the development of the whole person. The Virtual University attracts adults who are serious about learning and who are ready to participate with fellow students in interactive environments. All students need is determination, computers, and access to the Internet to get started on their graduate degrees. Interested students should fill out their online applications today.

UIW Salutes Members of the Armed Forces!

Virtual University charges absolutely no fees to its military students, provides free textbooks, and has tuition at cap, which is a rate of $250 per credit hour for graduate military students. Tuition at cap along with free textbooks means no out-of-pocket expenses for active-duty military. Students' graduate degrees are earned through smoother routes with the university's convenient virtual admission and registration processes. Virtual University provides a sense of community even at a distance with the support of military-friendly administration, staff members, and faculty members. The University of the Incarnate Word has been named a 2012 'military-friendly' university by GI Jobs magazine, the third consecutive year for it to earn this honor. Along with honors from Military Times and Military Advanced Education, the university offers tried and true academic programming for military heroes.

Veterans, military dependents, and DoD Civilians also receive discounted tuition rates with Virtual University. Interested students should contact the school to find out more about these rates. The UIW Center for Veterans' Affairs assists veterans in applying for veterans' benefits and dedicated staff members facilitate the admission and registration process.

UIW's Graduate Degree Programs

The Master of Arts in Administration (MAA) is designed to offer students a program of study that allows students to personalize their degrees in order to gain the knowledge and skills required of their career fields with four different concentrations.

The MAA in Applied Administration concentration allows students to avoid duplication of previous coursework, training, or experience by permitting them to select the courses from up to two of the MAA related disciplines.

The MAA in Communication Arts is meant to not only help students gain knowledge in their chosen degree fields, but also to prepare them to serve as ethical and accountable administrators who are able to conceptualize, and critically analyze, complex organizational issues. Students will also be prepared to persuasively direct toward courses of action that are in the best interests of those they serve.

The MAA in Healthcare Administration concentration provides unique expertise in health services management that will prepare students to serve in a variety of healthcare organizations such as hospitals, group practices, health insurance companies, and other clinical and administrative settings.

The Organizational Development concentration of the MAA prepares students for management and analyst positions in organizations undergoing process-centered transformations as well as other positions within, or related to, the profession of Organizational Development. The concentration focus is on the functions of organizational assessment, diagnosis, and intervention, as well as on the functions of training and development.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree programs develop in each student a broad understanding of how the elements and processes of business organizations relate to one another and to the external environment. Degree requirements are designed to develop proficiency and confidence in all of the functional areas of business. In addition to General Business concentrations, Virtual University also offers concentrations in International Business.

The Master of Education with a concentration in Teacher Leadership is designed for PK - 12 teachers who want to continue in the classroom, while assuming leadership roles in their schools and communities. This program focuses on the "teacher as leader" and empowers experienced teachers to effect change and improve student learning.
