Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) Program

Students seeking to sharpen their leadership skills, gain advanced business acumen, and accelerate their careers will benefit from a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree from William Paterson University's Cotsakos College of Business.

The Cotsakos College of Business is one of an elite group of business schools to achieve international accreditation from AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), representing the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. Only the top 6% of business schools in the world are accredited by AACSB. In addition, for six straight years the college has been included in The Princeton Review's guide to graduate business schools, including "The Best 295 Business Schools, 2014 Edition."

Located in the university's state-of-the-art building at 1600 Valley Road, the Cotsakos College of Business offers programs that provide students with real-world business experience. Faculty members are recognized experts in their fields -- often with significant industry experience. In addition, students can experience world financial markets firsthand through the Financial Learning Center, one of the few active trading rooms found in an academic institution. They can also take advantage of the sophisticated resources of the college's Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales.

The M.B.A. Curriculum

The M.B.A. program curriculum is designed to prepare students in multiple ways to play effective roles in an increasingly diverse and competitive business environment.

The program is designed to refine communication skills, emphasize quantitative analysis, and develop an understanding of new technology applications. Business imperatives such as sustainability, ethics, and diversity are embedded throughout the program.

The curriculum consists of lower-core courses, upper-core courses, and concentration/elective courses. The 18 lower-core credit hours represent fundamental business knowledge. These may be waived by the M.B.A. program director if applicants have taken equivalent coursework in their undergraduate studies that satisfies the requirements of the Cotsakos College of Business.

The 12 to 15 upper-core credit hours build on this foundation and focus on the integration of the lower-core areas with cross-functional approaches to organizational issues. The 15 to 18 concentration and elective credit hours are highly customizable and afford an in-depth exploration of personal areas of interest. Designed to meet the needs of students who also work full time, courses are held in the evening, on weekends, and online.

General M.B.A.

The general M.B.A. degree program provides a contemporary curriculum in relevant areas of business. Electives are offered in areas of accounting, economics, marketing, management, and entrepreneurship, as well as an option to explore various interests via an independent study.

Accounting Concentration

The accounting concentration enables students to attain an M.B.A. that satisfies Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination education requirements while assisting them in preparing for the exam. All courses stay current with the latest accounting principles. The curriculum includes all core subjects including: assets and liabilities, equity, balance sheets, cash flow statements, auditing, financial accounting, federal tax regulations, business law and ethics, international accounting practices, and financial analysis. This concentration prepares students for a professional career in accounting through its thorough, well-rounded curriculum, which encompasses every aspect of the field.

Finance Concentration

The finance concentration offers the opportunity to pursue an M.B.A. degree while preparing for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) examination. All of the current, contemporary finance practices are featured, including global analysis, investment intermediation, financial planning, capital budgeting, and corporate finance. The finance concentration provides the stepping stone for a career in fields such as banking, portfolio management, insurance, or governmental regulatory agencies.

Marketing Concentration

This contemporary M.B.A. program track prepares students to manage the marketing and promotional aspects of business with such pertinent coursework as marketing research and analysis, customer relationship management, business-to-business marketing, global marketing, consumer behavior, and marketing strategy. These essential classes give a comprehensive overview of what's happening in global markets, and provide practical know-how in addressing the needs of corporations and other organizations, including nonprofits.

Music Management Concentration

The M.B.A. concentration in music management program provides advanced education in the areas of music business, music management, entrepreneurship, and entertainment law. It takes advantage of the university's proximity to New York City, a leading center for the music and entertainment industries, for full immersion in this environment. William Paterson University also offers a Master of Music degree program with a concentration in music management through the Department of Music in the College of the Arts and Communication.

Entrepreneurship Concentration

The M.B.A. program with a concentration in entrepreneurship provides the necessary skills to start, manage, operate, grow, and sustain an entrepreneurial venture. This is a good fit for anyone regardless of whether they already own a business, have a specific start-up idea, have corporate experience and wish to develop new skills, or want to be entrepreneurs and develop a business.
