Once you've decided on a private education, the next step is to apply. Most schools have January or February deadlines, so it's a good idea to get started in early November. An In-Person Interview
Ideally, personal interviews should happen early in the process. When you plan campus visits, request one. Your child (or you!) may be nervous, but remind them that everyone feels this way - it's normal.

Admission Testing
Each school determines which tests it will require. The following are the most common:

• SSAT: Secondary School Admission Test
• ISEE: Independent School Entrance Examination
• COOP:Cooperative Entrance Exam (for Catholic Schools)
• SHSAT:Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (NYC)

An Application Essay
Most applications will also require an essay on an assigned topic. Let your child take the lead in composing it. Admission committees are interested in your child's ability to organize their thoughts and explore a topic.

Additional application requirements may include:
