Background and Philosophy

Cybercamps, the summer computer camp for youths, is part of the Giant Campus family of youth programs. It has established itself as the most innovative national summer computer camp available. After more than a decade of summers, Cybercamps is still regarded as the premier summer program for kids who are interested in computers and technology, thanks to its dedication to innovation.
Cybercamps’ philosophy has guided the program since its start more than a decade ago—human brains learn more when they’re having fun™. This simple concept has been a driving force for Cybercamps and has kept it true to its values as a company.

Program Offerings

Gamer Campers who like playing video games will definitely enjoy Cybercamps’ gaming courses, which are filled with fun projects in game design, game modding, and 3-D modeling for games. The Cybercamps game design courses offer campers the chance to create their own video games, modify games they already have, and create game environments and graphics using industry-leading software. These courses are not just for game players. They are also for anyone who wants to be a part of the emerging fields of game design, narrative media, technology education, and interactive software design.
User Campers’ lives are filled with technology. They take digital photos, maybe have their own Web site, and use IM and text messages to chat. Cybercamps’ multimedia courses give campers the chance to use technology in a way that gives them the ability to customize it to their personal style. These courses allow students to build a Web site, master digital photography, and design graphics that show off their creativity and style. These courses offer a focus in graphic design, flash animation, and Web design.
Coder Through Cybercamps’ programming series of courses, students learn to control the brains of their computer by writing programs in a language that it can understand. All courses are customized to match the campers’ level of interest and the speed at which they learn. These are ideal courses for campers who want to program a robot (robotics), write computer programs (C++ programming), or write software packages (Java scripting).

Extra Opportunities and Activities

In addition to its courses and special interest projects, Cybercamps offers a variety of activities—both indoor and outdoor—that its participants love, including Capture the Flag, Ultimate Frisbee, Dance-Dance-Revolution®, board games, and videos. Cybercamps also offers a number of traditions, including Wild Water Wednesdays, Friday Awards Ceremony, Robot Rivalries, Game Testing, Movie Mania, and Campus Tours.

Staff

Cybercamps teaching staff members are parents, educators, technology professionals, and experts—adults who provide a safe and nurturing environment that helps campers have a great summer. They are cool people that youths feel comfortable around, and they are passionate about helping kids experience technology in a safe and productive way. The camper-staff ratio is 5:1, the lowest for a national program. On average, more than 80 percent of the camp directors return each year to lead Cybercamps programs.

Medical Care

Cybercamps maintains more than 300 standards of health and safety in all camp locations. These standards cover various aspects of a camp’s operations in ten specific areas, including health care (staff and facility requirements, medication management, required health information, and recordkeeping) and staffing (staff qualifications, training, ratios, supervision, and behavior management guidelines). In addition, Cybercamps’ standards go beyond these basic requirements to include a comprehensive staff training program for all camp staff members, from the camp director through counselors, covering emergency management plans, health care, and overall program management. Cybercamps’ staff members are trained in first aid and CPR, and each staff member has been through its rigorous screening system.

Costs

Cybercamps offers day camps, extended day camps, and residential camps. Weekly tuition rates vary by location. Day camp ranges from $599 to $749, with variations to personalize each camper’s program. For specific tuition and fees, students may call 888-904-2267 (toll-free) or visit Cybercamps’ Web site (http://www.cybercamps.com).
