Location

The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is one of the largest and most highly regarded art and design colleges in the United States. The College has locations in Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia, and Lacoste, France. Summer programs for high school students are currently offered in Savannah, a historic city located just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, and Atlanta, a major metropolitan hub for business, the arts, and transportation.

Background and Philosophy

SCAD prepares talented students for professional careers, emphasizing learning through individual attention in a positively oriented university environment. The goal of the College is to nurture and cultivate the unique qualities of each student through an interesting curriculum, in an inspiring environment, under the leadership of involved professors.

Program Offerings

SCAD Summer Seminars were designed for students looking for ways to express their creativity during the summer. The one-week residential and nonresidential summer workshops are for high school students who have completed their freshman, sophomore, or junior year. Through exciting educational workshops in Savannah and Atlanta, SCAD Summer Seminars promise participants a week they will never forget.
Workshops are led by SCAD faculty and staff members and graduate students and may include demonstrations, lectures, studio work, and local field trips. Students receive individualized instruction, interact with peers, and explore a variety of methods and processes. Supplies are provided.
Seminar topics include animation, architectural sketching, digital photography, drawing, fashion, furniture design, game design, graphic design, painting, printmaking, performing arts, production design, sculpture, sequential art, and video and television.
SCAD Rising Star is a challenging five-week program that awards college credit to rising high school seniors who are ready for a summer college experience. Students may enroll in two college-level classes and have the opportunity to build or enhance their visual arts portfolios. Outside class, students complete assignments, take field trips, socialize, and enjoy area parks and other attractions. College housing and meals are provided.
Courses are offered in architecture, drawing, 2-D design, fashion, film and television, photography, and production design. Students who successfully complete the Rising Star program earn college credit that may be applied toward a baccalaureate degree at SCAD or at other colleges or universities. (Course credits are applied to degree requirements at the discretion of the accepting institution.)
