American University in Cairo - Intensive Arabic Language Program The Arabic Language Institute at the American University in Cairo offers contemporary Arabic language training in Egyptian colloquial and modern standard Arabic for students, businesspeople, diplomats, and scholars. Students may concentrate their studies of 20 hours per week in spoken (Egyptian) or literary Arabic or take a combination of both (10 hours of each). An equivalent amount of time is spent on assignments. The summer program runs from early June to early August and includes course-related travel around Egypt. Enrollment is limited to 100. Applications for the summer Intensive Arabic Program are due by March 1.
American University in Cairo - Summer Study Abroad Program The American University in Cairo (AUC) offers visiting students an opportunity to select courses from its undergraduate summer offerings. Areas of interest have been Egyptian, Arab, and Middle East history; politics; Middle East society; and Arabic. The language of instruction is English. Opportunities are available for travel in Egypt. AUC is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools; the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET); and the Computer Sciences Accreditation Board (CSAB).
American University in Cairo - Winter Program In January, the American University in Cairo holds a three-week winter session that allows visiting students to either take concentrated study in beginning Modern Standard Arabic or one of a variety of subjects that change annually. Visiting students study in English with AUC's regular student body. In the past, courses have included subjects in environmental biology and Middle East studies. Planned cultural activities and travel to important sites near Cairo and within Egypt are an important part of the winter session. A comprehensive fee covers tuition, academic fees, and housing. Applications are due October 15.
Augusta State University - Salamanca Program This program gives more for the money than most other programs, even with the $250 out-of-state fee. Students learn Spanish, culture, and customs by living with a family. Classes are taught by faculty members at the University of Salamanca, not professors from the States or local institutes. There are excursions to Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Pamplona (running of the bulls), Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and Paris. Price includes airfare from Atlanta (students can deduct $850 if arranging their own airfare), tuition, books, housing, laundry, all meals, insurance, and excursions. Alternate departure or return dates are available. Orientation, postprogram reunion, and on-site tutoring are provided.
Lancaster University - Changing Places–Lancaster and the Lake District: Historical, Geographical, and Cultural Perspectives Lancaster University offers an International Summer School comprising three course options. The courses are four weeks long and run from mid-August to mid-September. Each course is worth 4 upper-division semester credits. Introduction to Britain: Learn about key elements of British history and culture, including the Roman occupation of northwest England, religious reformation in Elizabethan times, the industrial revolution, and the work of Lake District writers, poets, and artists, such as Wordsworth and Turner. The World About Us: This exciting journey encompasses 400 years of scientific discovery—starting with early medicine and taking you all the way to our current understanding of the universe and the conservation of the natural world. Europe in Context: Explore Britain’s turbulent relationship with its European neighbours—what led to the forming of the European Union? How do European law, business, and politics affect Britain? University of Cambridge - University of Cambridge International Summer Schools Programme Every summer, the University of Cambridge opens its doors to an international community of students, aged from 18 to more than 80, from all over the world. International Summer Schools have been held at the University for more than eighty years and offer plenary lectures and seminars as well as a chance to participate in extracurricular events and excursions. All programs take place in historic Cambridge, staying within college accommodations. In addition to the specialist subject programs—art history, history, literature, medieval studies, science, and Shakespeare—there are two interdisciplinary Summer Schools.
