Need-to-Know ASVAB Tips & Strategies

General

  • Relax the night before the test
Don't cram. You are being tested on knowledge that you have accumulated over the course of the year. Studying at the last minute will only stress you out. Go to a movie or hang out with a friend - anything to get your mind off of the test!

Test Specific

  • If you do not know the answer to a multiple-choice test item, guess
There is no penalty for incorrect answers on the ASVAB, so answer every question.  If you can eliminate any answer choices you know are definitely wrong and then make your selection from one the remaining answer choices, you take an "educated" guess rather than guessing blindly. You also increase your probability of guessing correctly.

  • While preparing, set aside time every day for concentrated study
Adhere closely to the schedule and don't waste time with too many breaks.

  • While taking the exam, work steadily and quickly but not carelessly
Be sure to keep an eye on the time so you can complete each section. Note that you will not be permitted to go back and check your answers on the subject tests that you have already completed.
