Reading Comprehension:

Adrenergic agents, commonly found in appetite suppressants, bronchodilators, central nervous system stimulants, and vasoconstrictors, produce slight pupillary dilation. They have not been observed to produce any adverse effects in open-angle glaucoma, and the incidence of deleterious effects on angle closure glaucoma after systemic administration has been extremely low. Adrenergic agents such as epinephrine and phenylephrine have been used ocularly to treat open-angle glaucoma. It is important to note, however, that these agents will elevate the intraocular pressure by narrowing the anterior chamber angle when instilled into eyes of angle closure patients.

General anesthetics producing parasympathetic and sympathetic imbalance may cause pupillary block. To prevent this complication, topical pilocarpine at 1% may be instilled into the eye one hour prior to anesthesia.
