Earning an accounting degree enables you to work in many different capacities, including public accounting, management accounting, internal auditing and governmental auditing. To pursue work with public companies, you will likely be required to become a certified public accountant (CPA), or even seek an <\/span>advanced degree in accounting<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here are ten scholarships to help you cover the cost of pursuing your accounting degree.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. National Society of Accountants Scholarship<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/a>This scholarship provides a one-time award of $500 to $1,000 to undergraduate students. Applicants must major in accounting and be a full-time or part-time undergraduate student attending an accredited U.S. school.<\/span>
    \n<\/span>Amount awarded: $500 – $1,000<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Institute of Management Accountants Memorial Education Fund Scholarships<\/a>
    \n<\/span>Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate student members pursuing a career in management accounting, financial management, or information technology, and be studying at an accredited institution in the U.S. or Puerto Rico.
    \nAmount awarded: $2,500<\/li>\n
  3. AICPA Scholarship Award for Minority Accounting Students<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/a>This program provides financial assistance to outstanding minority students to encourage their pursuit of accounting as a major and their ultimate entry into the profession. Scholarship aid may be used only for the payment of expenses that directly relate to obtaining an accounting education.<\/span>
    \n<\/span>Amount awarded: $3,000 – $5,000<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/a>Two scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled full-time, preparing for a career in state or local government finance. Applicants must attend a university or a four-year college and study full-time.<\/span>
    \n<\/span>Amount awarded: $4,500<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Michele L. McDonald Memorial Scholarship<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/a>An annual $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the purpose of earning a degree in accounting, with preference given to a woman returning to college from the workforce or after raising children. Applicants must be an undergraduate student attending a university or a four-year college.<\/span>
    \n<\/span>Amount awarded: $1,000<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. AICPA Foundation Two-year Transfer Scholarship Award<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/a>This scholarship award is available to students looking to transfer from a two-year college to a four-year institution to complete their degree in accounting or an accounting-related field. Up to 25 students per academic year will receive $5,000 per recipient for one year. <\/span>
    \n<\/span>Amount awarded: $5,000<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Crush The CPA Exam Scholarship<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/a>Applicants must be an actively enrolled college student in the last semester of obtaining your accounting degree or a recent graduate with a final cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher who plans on taking the CPA Exam. <\/span>
    \n<\/span>Amount awarded: varies<\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Government Finance Professional Development Scholarship<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/a>This scholarship is designed for a part-time graduate student in public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, economics, or business administration that prepares students for careers in state and local government finance. Applicants must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen, employed at least two years by one or more state or local governments, recommended by your employer, and recommended by your academic advisor or dean of the graduate program. <\/span>
    \n<\/span>Amount awarded: $2,250<\/span><\/li>\n
  9. Undergraduate Program Scholarship<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/a>Applicants should be enrolled in an undergraduate program that will allow them to achieve the accounting concentration required to sit for the CPA exam or to earn the undergraduate hours needed to enroll in a graduate program in order to achieve the concentration.<\/span>
    \n<\/span>Amount awarded: $2,000<\/span><\/li>\n
  10. Hagan Scholarship<\/span>
    \n<\/span><\/a>This award is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship created for high achieving, self-motivated students. The scholarship provides up to $6,000 each semester to help recipients graduate college debt free, up to $48,000 over eight consecutive semesters. Recipients must enroll at a four-year college or university the first semester following high school graduation. <\/span>
