If you\u2019re interested in joining the United States Navy Nuclear Field (NF) program, perhaps as a nuclear propulsion plant operator, there are a number of steps you need to take in order to qualify.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To be academically eligible for the NF program, you must have passed one full year of high school or college-level algebra. You must also meet the <\/span>Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Navy Advanced Programs Test (NAPT) <\/span><\/a>requirements. You will need to take the NAPT if you do not qualify for the NF program based solely on your ASVAB line scores.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The nuclear field is highly competitive and challenging, and the NAPT demonstrates the types of content you need to know well in order to succeed in this field.<\/span><\/p>\n

About the NAPT Exam<\/span><\/h3>\n

The NAPT is a two-hour supplementary exam that assesses your knowledge in chemistry, math, and physics constructs. The math questions are comprised of arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, algebra, and probability. NAPT questions were developed to measure knowledge and comprehension (20 percent of the test) and application (80 percent of the test).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

NAPT Exam Scores and Retesting Policy<\/span><\/h3>\n

You will need to answer 55 questions correctly out of 80 to receive a passing score. If your initial test score was 40 or higher, you may be authorized to retest once no earlier than 90 days from the date of the initial test. The minimum passing score for an NAPT retest is 55.<\/span><\/p>\n
