Your final step toward becoming a certified radiologic technologist is passing the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arrt.org\/pages\/resources\/exam-information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Radiography certification exam<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The radiography exam assesses your knowledge and cognitive abilities required to perform job duties within the radiographic field.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Job Duties<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A radiologic technologist performs medical diagnostic imaging procedures on patients to diagnose diseases and create patient treatment plans. Some radiologic technologists have specialized training in cardiovascular-interventional radiography, mammography, or sonography.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Radiologic technologists perform several tasks, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preparing and positioning patients for imaging procedures<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adjusting and maintaining equipment to achieve the highest quality image<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Administering patient radiation, under the direction of their medical team<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Establishing patient safety and comfort during the imaging procedure<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Informing patients thoroughly of their imaging procedure<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Completing physician orders on what areas of the body to image<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recording and updating the patient\u2019s medical data and detailed medical records<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Collaborating with the medical team regarding patient diagnosis and treatment plans<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most radiologic technologists work in a hospital, physician\u2019s office, outpatient care center, or laboratory, splitting their time between completing technological tasks and patient interactions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Education Requirements<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The minimum education level required and most commonly-used route to becoming a radiologic technologist is through a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.petersons.com\/search\/college?q=radiology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two-year associate degree in radiology<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Obtaining an associate degree prepares aspiring radiologic technologists for performing diagnostic imaging exams, including x-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging, and mammography.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While acquiring a bachelor\u2019s degree is not essential to become an entry-level radiology tech, it will provide you with opportunities to r<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">each areas of specialization and advancement in fields related to radiation technicians. Bachelor\u2019s degree holders are also eligible for advanced positions in the radiology field that include promotions into<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> management and administrative roles. These positions may include <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supervisor, chief radiology technologist, and director or department administrator.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About the Exam<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ARRT Radiography exam assesses your knowledge required by entry-level radiologic technologists needed to perform their jobs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will have three and a half hours to complete 220 questions (200 of which are graded) on the radiography exam. If you are 15 or more minutes late, your appointment will be forfeited.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure to bring two forms of identification to the test center. You will need to provide a digital signature, be photographed, and have your palms scanned for authentication.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ARRT exam is computer-based and made up of mostly multiple choice questions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You cannot skip a question on the exam; however, you can select your best guess, flag the question for later review, and continue on to the next question. Once you\u2019ve completed the exam, review the questions you have flagged.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will receive a preliminary score on the computer after you\u2019ve completed the exam. This is not your final score.
