It&#8217;s hard to keep track of &#8217;em all in today&#8217;s politics<\/p>\n<p>Those with strong political beliefs have traditionally found themselves welcome and fostered at colleges and universities, but some campuses are definitely greater hotbeds (hotterbeds?) of political activity than are others. If you want in on some political discourse, then maybe you should be looking into these colleges.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #bfbfbf;\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Heading_2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.petersons.com\/college-search\/american-university-000_10000220.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">American University<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #7f7f7f; font-size: 12px;\">Washington, DC<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Its location puts it right on top of the major political action.<\/li>\n<li>Well-renowned for its politics and law programs.<\/li>\n<li>Students routinely work in nearby political forums and on the Hill, in positions earned through the college.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #bfbfbf;\"><br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Heading_2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.petersons.com\/college-search\/the-george-washington-university-000_10000311.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">George Washington University<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #7f7f7f; font-size: 12px;\">Washington, DC<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Located only a short way away from the White House itself.<\/li>\n<li>Many faculty members are directly involved in the nation&#8217;s government.<\/li>\n<li>45 student political groups on the campus, including College Democrats and Republicans, Colonials Against State Executions, Students for a Free Cuba, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #bfbfbf;\"><br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Heading_2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.petersons.com\/college-search\/columbia-university-000_10000001.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Columbia University<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #7f7f7f; font-size: 12px;\">New York City, NY<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NYU boasts the NYU Department of Politics, one of the best political science programs in the world.<\/li>\n<li>NYU students are almost always performing a protest or a demonstration with relation to an important political issue.<\/li>\n<li>NYU is home to an array of&nbsp;student organizations which foster political activism in students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #bfbfbf;\"><br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Heading_2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.petersons.com\/college-search\/georgetown-university-000_10001669.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Georgetown University<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #7f7f7f; font-size: 12px;\">Oberlin, OH<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The first college to admit African-American students. <\/li>\n<li>Highly liberal campus, full of free-thinking, non-conformity, and creativity.<\/li>\n<li>An emphasis on social consciousness and politics in daily life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #bfbfbf;\"><br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Heading_2\">Tips for Being Politcally Active on Campus<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip #1: Be open-minded!<\/strong> <br \/>\nDon&#8217;t just go to events for one side of the political issues; go to the events for both! This isn&#8217;t just a matter of keeping an open mind. This is about learning the arguments of both sides&nbsp;of an issue to be able to engage in good discourse. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip #2: Investigate the world!<\/strong> <br \/>\nWhile you&#8217;re at college, it can sometimes be easy to slip into a bubble. Make sure that you keep yourself aware of and up-to-date on the important political issues of the world around you, especially at the local level. It&#8217;s often far easier to effect political change at the local level, so keep aware, and if you see something you want to change, make it happen!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip #3: Be polite!<\/strong> <br \/>\nIf you want to change someone&#8217;s mind, yelling at them and calling them names isn&#8217;t generally a good idea. Always be polite and respectful when you&#8217;re interacting with others holding different views from your own.
