HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. \u2013 December 17, 2018 \u2013 To help ease the disruption 20,000 former students face in the wake of Education Corporation of America\u2019s (ECA) sudden shutdown of 70 career training schools in 21 states, educational services company Peterson\u2019s<\/a> is offering impacted students free access to its library of digital test preparation resources for nursing licensure exams and College Level Exam Placement (CLEP) tests.<\/p>\n

Almost every ECA for-profit institution, including Brightwood College and Virginia College campuses, lost accreditation Dec. 4th<\/sup>. In the aftermath, thousands of stunned students across the country risk wasting more time and money retaking completed courses because their ECA course credits are unlikely to transfer to other institutions. But these students can save both time and money by earning up to three course credits at over 2,000 colleges and universities for each passing grade on a subject-based CLEP test.<\/p>\n

Peterson\u2019s offers online CLEP practice tests and review materials in 31 subject areas ranging from financial accounting to western civilization. \u201cWe believe in immediate and practical solutions to help students complete their degrees, and CLEP tests provide a little known yet highly effective alternative path to fairly earn college credits for subject mastery,\u201d said Jordan Stolper, CEO of Peterson\u2019s. \u201cUnfortunately, no-one can reimburse ECA students for their time and effort spent, but we hope the CLEP resources we provide can at least help them regain some of the credits they lost.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the thousands of Brightwood College nursing students left in career placement limbo by ECA\u2019s closing, Peterson\u2019s is providing free National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) test prep resources for both the NCLEX registered nurse and practical nurse board certification exams.<\/p>\n

Top education department officials and influential state politicians sharply criticized ECA for its rushed decision and the damage they caused to students. Liz Hill, a spokesperson for the U.S. Education Department told the Associated Press<\/a> that \u201cinstead of taking the next few months to close in an orderly fashion, ECA took the easy way out and left over 19,000 students scrambling to find a way to finish the education program they started.\u201d<\/p>\n
