Lagniappe: A Little Something Extra
Centenary's beautiful 64-acre residential campus is located in the heart of the historic Highland neighborhood in Louisiana's third-largest city. Just three hours from Dallas, four from Houston, and five from New Orleans, Shreveport is an economic and cultural crossroads between Texas and Louisiana and offers a unique blend of food, music, and traditions. From the Krewe of Highland Mardi Gras parade that rolls right in front of campus to free movies at the indie Robinson Film Center downtown, life in Shreveport always offers "lagniappe" (in Louisiana, "a little something extra").
On campus, students get involved in more than 60 campus organizations, including student government, music, theatre, community service, advocacy, and Greek life. Centenary fields 17 varsity athletic teams in NCAA Division III along with competitive cheer and dance with the Universal Dance Association and Universal Cheer Association. The College recently announced the addition of varsity football, with a team scheduled to begin play in fall 2024. The College’s Meadows Museum of Art, Marjorie Lyons Playhouse, and Hurley School of Music are some of Shreveport’s most established cultural centers, providing students and the wider community with opportunities to produce and experience outstanding art exhibits, theater productions, and musical performances.
Centenary’s strong connections to alumni and community partners provide numerous opportunities for student service with local non-profit organizations, internships in the business community, and research with local scientists and medical professionals.
