The Art Institute of Virginia Beach, a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta, is one of The Art Institutes, a system of over fifty schools throughout North America dedicated to providing hands-on education in the creative and applied arts. The Art Institute of Virginia Beach offers bachelor's and associate degree programs as well as non-degree programs for students interested in pursuing career opportunities from among tomorrow's 15 million jobs in creative fields like design, fashion, media arts and culinary (based on information from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for job growth from 2012 to 2022).

Accreditation and Licensing


The Art Institute of Virginia Beach is located in the South Hampton Roads area of Southeastern Virginia, near the beautiful sands that line the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay. Considered the birthplace of America, the Hampton Roads area is home to home to Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America, as well as Colonial Williamsburg. Rich history and beautiful waterfront combine to create a fun and welcoming place for visitors of all ages.

The Virginia Air & Space Center, the Riverside IMAX Theater, Hampton History Museum, and historic Fort Monroe are all located in Hampton. Walk along the Downtown Hampton Public Piers and stop in at the National Maritime Center. Relax at Buckroe Beach. Catch a NASCAR race at Langley Speedway. Indulge in some cuisine and shopping at Peninsula Town Center. And head to Hampton Coliseum for events like the annual Hampton Jazz Festival. Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens are located not far to the north.

Virginia Beach offers 28 miles of public beaches, a three-mile paved boardwalk, and all kinds of events, including the Boardwalk Art Show, the Neptune Festival, the Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championship, and the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon. The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, the Cape Henry Lighthouse, and the Ocean Breeze Waterpark are also in Virginia Beach. Activities include sport fishing, scuba and snorkeling, surfing, sailing, biking, hiking, and just relaxing.

In nearby Norfolk, there are numerous shopping, cultural, and entertainment options. Downtown Norfolk is home to Chrysler Museum of Art, and the USS Wisconsin, the largest battleship in the world can be found at Nauticus, the National Maritime Center. In addition, the AAA Tidewater Tides play baseball at Harbor Park Stadium. Finally, Naval Station Norfolk, the main port of the U.S. Navy's Atlantic Fleet and the largest naval facility in the world, is located in Portsmouth, near the mouth of Hampton Roads.

The 23-mile-long Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel spans the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay to connect Virginia Beach with the Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia) Peninsula.
