A Unique Degree Program in Integrating Mathematics and Management

Offered jointly by Claremont Graduate University’s Drucker School of Management and Institute of Mathematical Sciences, the Master of Science in Financial Engineering (MFSE) combines substantial mathematics and finance training that enables you to evaluate complex financial products and become a strategic leader in the field.

The MFSE program is designed with dual emphasis. Its hallmark: a close integration of management and mathematics. By experiencing the mathematics component of the financial engineering program, our students develop analytical and technical capabilities for specialized careers. And management training at the Drucker School provides them the leadership abilities needed to comprehend and communicate the strategic utilization of products.

Our program ranks among the top 25 financial engineering programs nationally and gives our graduates excellent preparation for careers in risk management, investment, banking, corporate finance, hedge funds, derivatives, and more. Students are taught and mentored by distinguished faculty from both fields.

The MFSE may be earned through part- or full-time study, and its interdisciplinary curriculum can be completed in three semesters of full-time study. Students in this program come from a broad range of educational and experiential backgrounds—they may be recently finished undergraduates or PhDs working in management positions.

Our program offers students an exclusive opportunity to study abroad at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. Known for its banking system, Switzerland offers our students the opportunity to participate in financial forums and engage in stimulating financial discussions with seasoned professionals.

About CGU

Founded in 1925, CGU is the only research-extensive university in the nation devoted entirely to graduate-level education. In most other graduate schools, professors are divided between undergraduate responsibilities and their graduate students. Here, your professors are “graduate only,” meaning they are dedicated only to you and to the highest levels of teaching, scholarship, and service. All of your peers are graduate level, and they are equally committed to the pursuit of knowledge.

Location, Location, Location

Claremont Graduate University (CGU) is located in the city of Claremont, California, in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. The city is prized for tree-lined streets, historic structures, and inviting campuses. Students will find modern facilities in an appealing setting about 35 miles from Los Angeles.

CGU is a member of the Claremont University Consortium, a group of institutions partnering for educational distinction. The consortium's five undergraduate colleges and two graduate institutions combine to provide the shared student and faculty resources of a much larger university. Students enjoy intimate class sizes and personalized mentorship from faculty while benefiting from institutes and research centers typically found at major universities.

Students will appreciate the nearby mountains and beaches of Southern California, as well as the many major cultural centers in close proximity to campus, including Downtown Los Angeles and many museums, historical sites, and amusement parks.
