Master of Science in Food Science

Chapman University's M.S. in Food Science is the perfect graduate degree program to turn passion for science and food into a rewarding career.

Food Science uses biology, chemistry, physical sciences, psychology and engineering to study the properties of foods. Food scientists develop innovative ways to process, preserve, or package food, thereby making our food supply safer, sustainable and more nutritious. The food science industry represents one of the healthiest industries in the world, from food processing to food sales contributing close to $42.2 billion to the U.S. economy.

Students in the program learn how to apply scientific principles to study the properties of food and to develop innovative ways to process and package foods resulting in safe, sustainable and nutritious food choices. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for food scientists is projected to increase 10% until 2020, and job prospects in Southern California especially continue to grow steadily.

More than 1,500 food-processing companies are located within a 90-mile radius of Chapman University's campus in Orange County, California. In fact, most students in the program obtain work experience via internships and the program's job placement rate is close to 100%. Graduates have found employment with:
