Master of Business Administration Program
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at California State University Channel Islands can be completed in as little as 16 months. Students may attend full-time or part-time. Classes are held during evenings on weekdays. Designed to meet the individual academic and professional needs of students, the program offers convenient schedules, online prerequisites, and many resources including accessible faculty members, free workshops, alumni events, and networking opportunities.
The MBA curriculum consists of 0-16 units of foundation (prerequisite) courses, 24 units of core courses, and nine units of special topics courses. International business topics are emphasized throughout the curriculum.
Foundation (prerequisite) courses are designed for students who have bachelor's degrees in disciplines other than business; however, all students complete core and special topics courses.
Special topics include business operations, economics, entrepreneurial management, and human resource management. Three units of special topics specifically addresses international business; alternatively, students can participate in a 10-day study abroad experience.
To accommodate working professionals, classes are offered in accelerated formats during evenings, as well as partially online.
M.S. Biotechnology and MBA Dual Degree Program
The Master of Science (M.S.) in Biotechnology and Master of Business Administration (MBA) dual degree program prepares individuals for leadership positions in the biotechnology industry.
The program's curriculum consists of 71 to 87 units of business and science foundation (prerequisite) courses, core science courses, core business courses, common courses, and science elective courses. The curriculum also includes a team project that allows students to use innovative applications in business and biotechnology to solve real-world problems.

MBA Short-Term Study Abroad Experience
The Short-Term Study Abroad Tour is a ten-day trip to a foreign country led by a faculty member and followed up with a student presentation and paper. This class allows students to receive three units of Special Topics credit and gain first-hand knowledge of business, cultural, economic, and political aspects of other countries. It includes lectures at foreign universities and tours of businesses as well as examination of history and culture through sightseeing. To date, tours have taken place in China, Vietnam, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, and Chile. Alumni and spouses are allowed to participate for continuous learning opportunities (subject to fees).
Expert Faculty Members
Faculty members -- like Dr. William P. Cordeiro -- are industry experts and accomplished scholars who are committed to the academic and professional success of their students.
Dr. Cordeiro, a professor of management, worked in industry for nearly 15 years before beginning his academic career. He also has extensive consulting experience in the government and private sectors, and he publishes in the areas of business ethics, business school pedagogy, and strategic planning.
Dr. Priscilla Liang also worked in industry (for six years) before starting her academic career. She has extensive experience in emerging markets investment, international business, and real estate development in China.
Dr. Sung Won Sohn, professor of economics, was ranked in 2012 by the "Wall Street Journal" as one of the U.S.' best economic forecasters; he was the only representative of academia ranked in the top 10, and one of just five in the top 50. Sohn served as senior economist on the President's Council of Economic Advisors under the Nixon Administration.
Speaking with a program representative is the first step in the admission process. The university will provide students with all of the information needed, including a preliminary evaluation of transcripts and work experience, to help them make a decision and move ahead.
They accept students twice a year, fall and spring. The minimum GPA requirement is 2.75. Thereafter, they view students' applications as a whole. This encompasses their work experience, GMAT score, references, essay question responses, and admissions interview. GMAT waiver requests may be approved by the Dean for recent graduates, graduates of other master degree programs, and transfer MBA students only. A TOEFL score may be required for international students.
