With a core management curriculum and a wide variety of technical electives, Duke's Master of Engineering Management (MEM) Program offers early-career engineers a tech-savvy graduate management degree. Offered by the Pratt School of Engineering with the support of Duke's Fuqua School of Business and the Duke School of Law, the MEM program prepares engineering and science graduates to become future industry leaders. Build a business foundation with core courses in management, marketing, finance, and intellectual property and business law

Customize the degree with a wide variety of technical electives, with the flexibility to focus on technology management, innovation management, operations management, entrepreneurship, financial engineering or master's courses in specific engineering disciplines

Develop leadership, negotiation, and communication skills in our unique workshop series for campus students or residency weeks for distance students.

The broad curriculum develops engineering professionals ready to address today's complex business problems with innovative solutions. Duke offers a traditional campus-based option for full-and-part-time students and an online low-residency distance option for working professionals.

MEM Core Management Courses Enhanced by Applied Technical Electives

Duke's core management courses consist of marketing, finance, management, and intellectual property/business law. Electives provide variety and flexibility as students enhance their technical depth and/or breadth. Students may focus on Technology Management or Science and Technology areas. Popular Engineering Management electives include Commercializing Technology Innovations, Data Mining and Big Data, Decision Models, Competitive Strategies, Operations and Supply Chain Management, Engineering Entrepreneurship, or Project Management.

Scholarships, Fellowships, and Loans Available

Duke University's MEM program is an approved Federal Stafford and Perkins Student Loan program for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. The program offers limited financial assistance to domestic students through Fellowships for Underrepresented and Outstanding Students. The required summer internship also helps offset the cost of the program, and many students work part-time while enrolled in the program. Financial aid is not generally available for international students.

Duke's MEM Program provides students with a proactive partner in career exploration and professional development. With comprehensive career development and job search programs, the MEM Career Services team coordinates multiple skill-enhancing activities throughout the year. These services begin at new student orientation, with two days of activities focused on career exploration and development, and continue with various seminars and workshops. The Career Services team also leads individual student advising through Duke's Career Center and guides students through Duke's extensive resources.

The MEM program's diverse student body includes approximately 150 graduate school students with a wide range of engineering backgrounds from countries around the world. The program is designed to provide its graduates with more influence within their organizations, greater job responsibility, a higher starting salary, and more-rapid career advancement. Graduates of the MEM Program pursue a wide variety of careers with top organizations that range from small businesses to large firms. Many choose technical fields in engineering and information technology, while others work in sales and marketing, construction, intellectual property, and technical consulting.
