The Master of Finance at Iowa State University

The Master of Finance at Iowa State University prepares students for careers in risk management, investing and wealth management, financial analysis, and corporate finance. The program places more emphasis on quantitative methods and skills than undergraduate finance or Master of Business Administration programs. This focus is essential because the field of finance has become more quantitative, so employers are increasingly in need of professionals who have analytical skills.

Master of Finance (MFin) curriculum

The Master of Finance is an on campus program that includes 40 credits of finance-related courses. It can be completed in three semesters, but students are encouraged to view it has a two-year program and take more than the minimum number of courses. Core finance topics like those listed below provide students with the tools to successfully analyze and solve problems encountered in today's fast-changing financial environment.

Faculty members in the Finance Department are excellent professors and renowned researchers. Their research focuses on current and future financial challenges as well as financial issues that impact professional organizations.

Director of the Master of Finance Program Travis Sapp, PhD has expertise in asset pricing, initial public offerings, mutual funds, private equity, reverse mergers, risk management, and seasoned equity offerings. He has authored and co-authored several journal articles and presented his research at conferences including the "2017 Eastern Finance Association Annual Meeting" in Jacksonville, Florida.Associate Professor of Finance Jamie Brown, PhD is an accomplished researcher with areas of expertise that include financing R&D and innovation, law and finance, and financial markets and economic performance. His research has been published in a number of journals including the "Journal of Banking and Finance" and "American Law and Economics Review".

Associate Professor of Finance Valentina Salotti, PhD has expertise in several areas including banking regulation, relationship banking, and small business finance. She has published her research in prominent journals, including the "Journal of Banking and Finance" and "Journal of Financial Research," and presented it at conferences throughout the world.
