Located in the 7-story Behrakis Health Sciences Center, students have access to high-tech facilities, including observation and discussion rooms, an interdisciplinary practice site, a pharmacy practice library, a variety of instructional laboratories, and state-of-the-art research laboratories for anatomy, neuroanatomy, and osteology.

The college promotes cross-disciplinary partnerships among faculty members, students, and corporate and community organizations to encourage education of both entry level and advanced practice health professionals. Students are able to gain professional experience and develop strong community connections while developing skills to be effective health care providers. Graduates of Bouvé have the knowledge and capability to be lifelong contributors to social and technical achievements.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is an important component within Northeastern University's School of Pharmacy and Bouvé College of Health Sciences.

Professional Science Masters in Biomedical Nanotechnology

The Master of Science (MS) in Biomedical Nanotechnology is a professionally aware program, flexibly designed to meet the needs of working professionals and incoming students looking for career changes or advancements. The unique program incorporates curriculum from the pharmaceutical sciences program with courses in entrepreneurship, nanotechnology, and law to provide students with relevant skills in science, academics, leadership, business, and intellectual property law. The practice-oriented program also includes an internship component that provides real-world, professional experience.

Courses in this program include "Pharmaceutical Aspects in Biochemistry," "Nanosystems Design for Biology and Medicine," "Innovation and Enterprise Growth," and "Intellectual Property Law." Evening classes are available for working professionals.

Interdisciplinary Research Opportunities within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Northeastern University is a powerhouse in interdisciplinary and translational research that meets societal needs. University-wide research focuses on the application of knowledge to real world issues, student involvement in the research process, and preparing graduate students for professional careers in their fields.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences has 5 Distinguished Centers of Research Excellence and research programs that they maintain: the Center for Drug Discovery, New England Inflammation and Tissue Protection Institute, Center for Translational Imaging, Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Nanomedicine, and Environmental Cancer Research Program. The Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and Nanomedicine performs intensive research and studies on the border between biotechnology and nanomedicine. The center promotes active collaborations with academic, industrial, and medical institutions locally, nationally, and worldwide, including Auburn University, Beth Israel Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, University of Padova, and the Russian Oncology Center.

Within pharmaceutical sciences, research focuses on 7 primary areas: medical chemistry and drug discovery, neuropharmacology, inflammation and immunology, toxicology, drug delivery and nanomedicine, translational imaging, and bioanalytical chemistry.

Experiential Learning Opportunities through Northeastern's Cooperative Education Program

The cooperative education (co-op) program at Northeastern University was founded over a century ago, and today is one of the largest programs of its kind in the world. The co-op program provides students with opportunities to develop awareness, confidence, knowledge, and perspective within their fields by alternating semesters of study with full-time employment.

Bouvé students have opportunities to work at some of the world's leading teaching hospitals, community-based programs, international locations, and research projects in 85 countries around the world or without straying far from campus. Northeastern is located just blocks from some of the most prestigious health care and medical research facilities in the world.

Faculty members in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences are engaged educators and researchers focused on cutting-edge innovations and targeted student development. For instance, Dr. Heather Clark is dedicated to developing fluorescent nanosensors and applying them to real problems in biology and medicine. Her team-based research has helped build strong collaborations with investigators at BIDMC, Boston University, Harvard University, MIT, and Tufts Medical Center.

Dr. Mansoor Amiji is a registered pharmacist whose research specializes in polymeric biomaterials, drug delivery systems, and nanomedical technologies. Amiji has been published in more than 8 books and manuscripts in 5 years.

Dr. Ban-An Khaw's research focuses on developing new approaches for the diagnosis of various types of cancers and cardiovascular diseases. His specializations are in cardiovascular targeting and immunotargeting.

Financial Aid Opportunities at Northeastern University

The Student Financial Services office at Northeastern University is committed to helping students navigate the financial aid process. Eligible graduate students may be awarded assistantships, scholarships, supplemental loans, or federal work study opportunities. Graduate scholarships available include the Double Husky Scholarship, Martin Luther King, Jr. Graduate Fellowship, and Graduate Dean's Scholarship.

The US Navy also offers financial aid opportunities for health students, including the Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program, Navy Health Services Collegiate Program, and Navy Financial Assistance Program.
