Distance education degrees and certificates
The distance programs provide access to a variety of graduate degrees, graduate certificates, and individual classes. Graduate degree programs offered by the Graduate School include Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Curriculum and Instruction: Math & Science Education; Electrical Engineering, Engineering Management, Telecommunications, and Water Engineering and Management. Graduate certificate options focusing on a specific skill or advanced knowledge are offered in most of these disciplines and includes Renewable and Sustainable Energy.
Aerospace Engineering Sciences
"US News and World Report" ranks the graduate Aerospace Engineering Sciences program at CU Boulder among the best in the nation. Graduates of the program play key roles in the design of complex aerospace systems in both the public and private sectors.
Students may take individual courses, pursue a graduate certificate, or earn a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering degree (MS) available online and on campus. Areas of study include Astrodynamics and Satellite Navigation Systems; Remote Sensing, Earth, and Space Sciences and Bioastronautics.
A dual degree of MS in Aerospace and Master of Engineering Management (ME) is also available.
Water and Civil Engineering
Civil Engineering offers an MS in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Water Engineering and Management degree program both online and on campus. Core courses include the areas of environmental engineering and water engineering. A wide variety of electives are offered, which focus on topics in civil engineering and public affairs.
Engineering for Developing Communities
The Mortenson Center in Engineering for Developing Communities (MCEDC) trains engineers to work in partnership with people from developing communities worldwide to create sustainable solutions to meet their basic needs. Students interested in community service and international development through EDC have several options.
This program exposes engineers to human development issues within the context of the developing world and within the framework and limitations of an engineering degree program. Upon completion, graduates should be able to provide technical expertise to development agencies or other firms in a manner that recognizes the various technical and professional facets of community development that lead to sustainable solutions.
The flexible, track-based Computer Science curriculum allows students to select specific coursework to meet their individual interests while preparing graduates for careers across a broad range of areas. The program awards the MS in Computer Science degree.
Areas of study include Artificial Intelligence; Computational Biology, Human Centered Computing; Numerical & Scientific Computing, Programming Systems; Systems & networking, and Thoery of Computing. In addition, a dual degree option, MS in Computer Science and ME in Engineering Management, is offered.
Computational Linguistics, Analytics and Search
The CLASIC program provides a solid foundation in both Computer Science and Linguistics graduate coursework, as well as several courses focused on data-driven linguistics, computational linguistics, and information processing. Students will complete the two-year degree with a capstone project that will run in conjunction with an internship or CU-based research project. As part of the capstone, students will be evaluated by their employer or industry project manager. Students will also prepare a technical report on the completed project that the program directors and project leader will jointly evaluate.
The Electrical Engineering Program at UCB boasts a nearly 100% employment rate for its graduates. Its esteemed faculty includes seven IEEE Fellows (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers); three OSA Fellows (Optical Society of America), and two RASEI Fellows (Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute).
Students may take online or on campus individual graduate courses, pursue a graduate certificate in Embedded Systems Engineering, Power Electronics or Electric Drivetrain Technology, or earn an MS in Electrical Engineering degree. Among the areas of study are Biomedical Engineering; Computer Engineering; Power Electronics, Dynamics and Controls; and Nanostructures and Devices, and Embedded Systems Engineering.
An MS in Electrical Engineering and ME in Engineering Management dual degree program is also available.
The Lockheed Martin Engineering Management Program at UCB provides advanced education for engineers, scientists, and technical professionals seeking to move into first- or second- level management. Taught by accomplished C-level executives and delivered in real-time classroom experiences, graduates master advanced skills and knowledge in project management, marketing, quality management, finance and accounting.
Available online and on campus, students may take individual courses, pursue a certificate, or earn the ME in Engineering Management degree, which can be combined for a dual degree with a graduate degree in aerospace engineering, civil engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or telecommunications.
The Interdisciplinary Telecom Program (ITP) at UCB offers three tracks through the distance delivery platform: Network Security, Policy and Strategy and Cyber Security. The Cyber Security track is a hybrid program that requires students to attend labs on campus for three weeks in August. All of the sub-tracks result in a master's degree in telecommunications.
The MS in Telecommunications integrates technology, business, economics and public policy, focusing on the skill set and knowledge for engineers and business leaders. Students may pursue an MS in Telecommunications under one of the five corresponding ITP tracks: Network Engineering, Network Security, Telecom Policy and Strategy, Wireless, and Cyber Security. Network Security, Policy and Strategy are available entirely online while the others are offered on campus. Students may earn a dual degree that combines the MS in Telecommunications with one of the following: BS in Computer Science, MBA, ME in Engineering Management, or Juris Doctor.
CU Boulder faculty includes five Nobel Laureates (four in physics and one in chemistry), eight MacArthur "Genius Grant" fellows, two U.S. Professors of the Year and four National Medal of Science winners. Faculty members contributed valuable data to the international climate change report that shared in the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.
