The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) is a public research university located in Boulder, Colorado. Founded in 1876, CU Boulder is the flagship university in the University of Colorado system, which is globally recognized for its world-class teaching, research, and Be Boulder Anywhere distance education delivery platform.

Distance Education

CU Boulder has led the field in distance education for more than 45 years, connecting students to the Boulder campus from anywhere in the world anytime. The suite of online delivery options enables students to earn the same degrees and have the same opportunities and resources as on-campus students pursuing the same goals.

Working professionals can customize their studies to their schedules with the flexibility and convenience of asynchronous online classes integrated with real-time streaming and other advanced technology to interact with a highly regarded faculty.

Distance education degrees and certificates

The distance programs provide access to a variety of graduate degrees, graduate certificates, and individual classes. Graduate degree programs offered by the Graduate School include Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computational Linguistics, Analytics and Search Informatics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Management, Journalism Entrepreneurship, Leeds School of Business, Mechanical Engineering. Graduate certificate options focusing on a specific skill or advanced knowledge are offered in most of these disciplines and includes Renewable and Sustainable Energy.

Aerospace Engineering Sciences

The National Research Council and US News and World Report; rank the Aerospace Engineering Sciences (AES) program at CU Boulder among the top 10 in the country. Internationally recognized for its distinguished faculty, research, and education leadership, the program spends more than $15 million each year on research in aerospace engineering, earth, and space sciences. AES is also home to four research centers and was named a program of excellence by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education.

The Master of Science (MS) in Aerospace Engineering Sciences degree program prepares graduates to meet 21st century aerospace challenges through the understanding, conception, design, and application of aerial and spacecraft systems. The program emphasizes hands-on, experiential learning, technical and organizational expertise, and end-to- end mission and systems perspectives.

Civil Engineering

Producing engineers capable of identifying, preventing, and solving building, construction and environmental problems is the department's objective. In addition to the well-established graduate programs in environmental, water resource and geotechnical engineering, students in the department may also choose to study in the emerging field of geoenvironmental engineering. Campus facilities, including a National Science Foundation-funded earthquake simulator, permit a case-study approach, which exposes students to real-world problems and allows experimentation, testing and analysis. Courses are available online and on campus; most of the professional degrees have online courses included in the curriculum.

The department offers two professional master's programs tailored for working engineers looking to develop a new skillset. Both of the programs are coursework based and result in a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering (MSCVE): Engineering for Developing Communities and Water Engineering and Management

Computational Linguistics, Analytics and Search Informatics

The CLASIC program provides a solid foundation in both Computer Science and Linguistics graduate coursework, as well as several courses focused on data-driven linguistics, computational linguistics, and information processing.  Students will complete the two-year degree with a capstone project that will run in conjunction with an internship or CU-based research project. As part of the capstone, students will be evaluated by their employer or industry project manager. Students will also prepare a technical report on the completed project that the program directors and project leader will jointly evaluate.

Computer Science

The flexible, track-based Computer Science curriculum allows students to select specific coursework to meet their individual interests while preparing graduates for careers across a broad range of areas. The program awards the ME in Computer Science degree.

Areas of study include Data Science, Human-Centered Computing, Intelligent Systems, Numerical Computation, Robotics, and Software Systems and Cloud Computing.

Electrical Engineering

With a highly regarded faculty and $13.4 million awarded in new contract and grant funding in fiscal year 2017, the Department of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering is the perfect place to take your education to the next level.

This program offers several degree options tailored to both working engineers looking to advance their careers and to those looking to pursue a career in academia.
