Widener University's Academic, Merit Scholarships are open to undergraduate, day students. Incoming students are automatically considered for academic scholarships just by applying. Merit scholarships for freshmen start at $90,000 over four years. The scholarship is limited to eight semesters. Merit scholarships for transfer applicants start at $20,000 per academic year. Merit scholarships for first-year students are based on academic performance in high school and the strength of the student's high school's curriculum. Merit scholarships for transfer students are based on cumulative college grade point average (from all institutions attended). Phi Theta Kappa honor society members are eligible for additional scholarship. Freshmen applicants may submit an admissions essay or SAT or ACT scores. As part of the test-optional admissions process, students may choose between these two requirements. They do not need to submit both. Students may also choose to include letters of recommendation with their application. These letters are not required.
