The Rev. Dr. Karen Layman Gift of Hope Scholarship is designated for undergraduates with at least three years of membership?áin the UMC. Applicants should be very?áactive in UMC leadership and have minimum 3.0 GPA. Scholarship recipients should be enrolled full-time and pursuing a degree at an accredited institution; however, committees may consider part-time applicants under extenuating circumstances.?áStudents who are United States citizens or permanent residents, or who are?áDeferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) persons shall follow the?ádomestic applicant minimum scholarship requirements. Students who are members from one of the United Methodist Central Conferences, who are citizens from a country other than the United States and are enrolled in a United Methodist institution within the United States, shall follow the?áInternational Applicant Minimum Scholarship Requirements. High school students may apply if they will be college students in the fall term. Each applicant may apply?áonce per year for a scholarship from GBHEM. Renewals must re-apply each year. A student may receive GBHEM scholarships for up to seven award years maximum. Renewal applicants will not be considered for an eighth academic year for a GBHEM scholarship.
