  • Passing the ExCPT exam, which is required to complete the Pharmacy Technician Certification Program, is the final step toward becoming certified by the National Health Career Association (NHA). The ExCPT exam is administered by the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians, part of the NHA.
  • The ExCPT exam covers the following topics:
    1. Pharmaceutical regulation and technician duties
    2. Drugs and drug therapy (drug classification and frequently-prescribed medications)
    3. Dispensing process
    4. Medication safety and quality assurance
  • The ExCPT exam has 100 multiple-choice questions. It will take you 2 hours and 10 minutes to complete.
  • The ExCPT exam uses a scaled score method. The number of questions you answer correctly is converted into a score and then applied to a pass/fail scale. You must answer 70 or more questions correctly out of 100 for an ExCPT passing score.
  • Taking ExCPT practice tests is a great way to learn the material on the exam better and will help you be prepared for the types of questions that will be asked. Peterson’s test prep offers three full-length online ExCPT practice tests. Our test prep also gives you the resources you need, including an ExCPT exam study guide with tips for preparing for the ExCPT exam.
  • Peterson’s three full-length ExPCT practice tests are timed, simulating the actual ExPCT exam. Taking practice tests may help ease anxiety and bridge gaps in course content.
  • To register for the ExCPT, you must create an NHA candidate profile on the NHA website. After you have created your profile, you can apply and register for the exam. Log into your candidate profile and follow the steps to register for the ExCPT.
