ASSET FAQs

  • The ASSET exam is a series of placement tests that assist you and your institution in identifying the best courses based on your knowledge and skill level in reading, writing, and math.
  • Depending on your college program requirements, you may be required to take one or more of the ASSET tests during freshman orientation at your chosen college or university.
  • There are two main tests:
    1. Basic Skills Test measures your writing, reading, and numerical skills.
    The Advanced Mathematics Test evaluates your knowledge and abilities in elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, college-level Algebra, and Geometry.
  • There are 92 questions on the Basic Skills test and 100 questions on the Advanced Mathematical Skills test.
  • Since this test is designed to place you in the appropriate level classes, there is no “passing score” on the ASSET test.
  • Speak with your advisor, counselor, or Office of Student Services to identify your school’s requirements and if you need to take one of more of the ASSET tests. Some students are required to take the ASSET test during freshman orientation, depending on their program requirements.
  • Peterson’s test prep offers one full-length online ASSET practice test covering all sections of the ASSET exam. Our test prep also gives you the resources you need, including an ASSET exam study guide with tips for how to prepare for the ASSET exam.
  • Peterson’s full-length ASSET practice test is timed to simulate the actual ASSET exam. A practice test may help ease anxiety and bridge the gaps in course content.
