TOEFL iBT FAQs

  • The TOEFL iBT is an internet-based test that assesses your understanding of academic English and your ability to combine Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing skills.
  • The TOEFL iBT has four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. The Reading section of the TOEFL iBT has 30-40 questions where you’ll read passages and respond to questions. You’ll have 54-72 minutes to complete. The Listening section has 28-39 questions on brief lectures or classroom discussions. You’ll be given 41-57 minutes to complete this section. You’ll be given 4 tasks in the Speaking section and have 17 minutes to complete. In this section, you’ll need to discuss a familiar topic and what you have read and listened to. For the writing section, you’ll be given 2 tasks and need to read a passage, listen to a recording and submit your response. You’ll have 50 minutes to complete.
  • Most universities accept scores from the TOEFL iBT Home Edition. You can find a list of all universities that accept TOEFL iBT Home Edition by visiting the ETS website.
  • With a TOEFL iBT practice test, you’ll be able to become familiar with the types of questions and contents the actual TOEFL iBT will ask. Using TOEFL iBT practice tests online allows you to review correct answers and explanations.
  • The highest TOEFL iBT score you can achieve is 120. Most people will score around 90 on the TOEFL iBT, but scoring over 100 is considered to be a good TOEFL iBT score.
