  • The AP Human Geography exam will assess your knowledge of geographic concepts and ability to analyze maps, geospatial data, and infographics. Seven topics are generally covered in the Human Geography AP exam. These topics include: thinking geographically; population and migration patterns and processes; cultural patterns and processes; political patterns and processes; agricultural and rural land-use patterns and processes; cities and urban land-use patterns and processes; and industrial and economic development patterns and processes. Along with the seven topics generally covered in the AP Human Geography, you should practice five distinct skills: scale analysis, spatial relationships, data analysis, source analysis, and concepts and processes.
  • The AP Human Geography exam has two sections. The first section is a multiple-choice section, and you will have 1 hour to complete 60 questions. There will be individual and set-based questions, with about 30%- 40% of the questions covering stimulus material such as maps, charts, tables, graphics, images, infographics, and landscapes. This material will have both quantitative and qualitative sources. The second section is a free-response section. You will have an hour and fifteen minutes to complete three questions. Each question addresses a geographic scenario and will test your ability to detail and apply geographic fundamentals, processes, and models as you study patterns, relationships, and outcomes.
  • Since AP Human Geography covers distinct topics, it is often considered a challenging course. However, with proper preparation, many students are successful on the AP Human Geography exam.
  • You’ll have 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete the AP Human Geography exam. The AP Human Geography multiple choice section is an hour long, and the free response section is an hour and 15 minutes long.

First, take some time to understand what the question prompts you to answer. Explain your ideas and give explanations and proof to support these. After you have written your response, proofread and fix any errors or mistakes.
