  • AP Spanish tests your ability to understand Spanish-speaking cultures. You should be comfortable with and understand written and spoken Spanish on the AP Spanish Language and Culture exam.
  • The AP Spanish Language and Culture exam consists of two sections: a multiple-choice section and a free-response section. Each section has two parts.  The multiple-choice first part is 30 minutes long, and you’ll have 40 minutes to complete. In this first part, you’ll be presented with  4 sets of authentic print sources with questions asking you to identify the main ideas and supporting details, determine the meaning of vocabulary words within the text, identify points of view, and demonstrate your understanding of cultural information. The second section of the AP Spanish exam is 35 questions of multiple choice with audio, and you’ll have 55 minutes to complete. You’ll be given a variety of audio sources, including conversations, reports, instructions, and presentations. You’ll be able to listen to each audio text twice. The first section of the free response is a written test that you’ll have 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete. You’ll be given two questions with two instructions. The first instruction is a 15-minute interpersonal writing test where you’ll be asked to read and reply to an email. In the second instruction, you’ll be asked to write an argumentative essay based on 3 sources given. You’ll have approximately 55 minutes total to complete. The second part of the free response section will give you 2 speaking tasks. You’ll have 18 minutes to complete interpersonal speaking and presentational speaking. During the AP Spanish language course and test, you will have both print and audio texts and a simulated conversation. Some test areas include Spanish-speaking communities, science and technology, contemporary life, families in different societies, beauty and art, and environmental, societal, and political changes. The AP Spanish language and culture course is divided into two main sections. Section I has two parts. Part A focuses on interpretive communication in print texts, and Part B is also interpretive communication but focuses on print and audio texts. Section I has 55 multiple-choice questions. Section II has four free-response questions. Question 1 is about email replies, question 2 is an argumentative essay, question 3 is focused on conversation, and question 4 is about cultural comparison.
