- The CLEP College Algebra test assesses your knowledge of content typically covered throughout a one-year general Algebra class.
- The CLEP College Algebra exam assesses a student’s knowledge of the following algebraic concepts:
- Basic Algebraic Operations
- Equations and Inequalities
- Functions and Their Properties
- Number Systems and Operations
- Anyone with prior knowledge of a CLEP subject can take a CLEP exam. Typical test-takers include high school students, military service members, and non-traditional college students.
- You’ll receive two exam scores for the College Algebra CLEP: a raw score and a scaled score. Scaled scores range from 20 to 80. Your raw score is calculated based on how many answers you get right. There is no penalty for wrong answers, so guessing is encouraged. A computer scores multiple choice exams.
- The CLEP College Algebra exam is regarded as more difficult than the CLEP College Mathematics exam. Although the CLEP College Algebra exam covers fewer topics, the problems are more in-depth and challenging. The CLEP College Algebra pass rate is 52 percent.
- CLEP exams test you on the equivalent of an entire college semester’s curriculum in approximately 90 minutes. While the idea is to test you on material you are very familiar with, some practice on the content and the test itself is in order as a satisfactory score earns you the college credit you’re after. While everyone is different, Peterson’s recommends at least 6 weeks of College Algebra CLEP test prep before exam day.
