The College Level Examination Program, or the CLEP, is a collection of standardized tests that measure your knowledge of certain subjects. Students can earn college credit at thousands of colleges and universities by scoring satisfactorily on a computer-based CLEP exam.

  • Students who want to gain college credit in literature without taking a class can take the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP exam. Anyone seeking college credit can take CLEP exams. Homeschoolers, military personnel, and adult learners are typical CLEP test takers, but exams are also open to college and high school students. CLEP exams are helpful for students seeking higher education outside of the traditional classroom.
  • The Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP assesses a test taker’s ability to read and understand poetry and prose, whereas other CLEP exams test their knowledge of literary works. The pass rate of the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP exam is 75 percent.
  • A scaled score is calculated based on multiple-choice questions and essay scores ranging from 20 to 80. Based on this score, the student then earns an A, B, C, or D. The letter grade is applied to the equivalent college course.
  • By taking CLEP exams, you can apply prior or current knowledge to get a head start on your higher education pathway, enhance your degree, and save time and money on courses. Students can take various exams on entry-level collegiate topics to bypass these courses in college or university. Does this sound familiar? That may be because many students take CLEP tests with DSST tests. While both offer college credit, CLEP tests offer testing in mainstream subjects, while DSST test subjects are more specialized.
  • CLEP exams test you on the equivalent of an entire college semester’s curriculum in approximately 90 minutes.
